The goal of Boycottchapter27.org
The following quote is from an article on "Chapter 27" in boxoffice.com:
"The protestors [ers] who have organized against the film can put down their placards. They will be relieved to learn that the problem with Chapter 27 isn’t that it humanizes Mark David Chapman but that it fails to humanize him enough." - Ray Greene
While the notion of "humanizing" this terrorist is troublesome to boycottchapter27.org and its supporters, this is not the primary motivation for protesting the release of the film. The bottom line is and has always been that given his motivation to kill (fame), the film directly rewards a murderer by giving him the fame he so desires. In addition, it takes "killing for fame" from a ridiculous concept to a viable option for psychotics that will do anything to relieve the pangs of their painful inferiority complex. Considering the string of violent killings that have occurred in schools alone over the last several years - the most recent claiming 32 innocent lives, can we really afford to send out this message? What must also be considered is that many, many films have been blamed for spinning off copycat crimes. God forbid this film be added to that list. It is too great a risk.
All We Are Saying... is please understand our message before criticizing or minimizing it. In addition to viciously tossing salt into Yoko's wounds and giving notoriety to the assassin, all possible ramifications of releasing this film must be considered.
