Had to pass this event along, yes it's in Japan. This is what we should be striving for, events like this remember John Lennon as the man that he was, and always will be to the people that care. Please visit the John Lennon Museum (or at least the website).
JOHN LENNON MUSEUM
At the John Lennon Museum (Junichi Mizusawa, General Manager of the Museum/ Chuo-ku, Saitama-city) (yes, Japan), visitors will receive acorns from June 15, 2006, in commemoration of John and Yoko's Acorn Event on June 15, 1968, in relation to the planning exhibition "John and Yoko's Love & Peace Activities 1968 - 1970 - Acorn Event, John and Yoko's Art, Live, and Love & Peace" held from April 1 to July 31, 2006.
It was the "Acorn Event" on June 15, 1968 that John Lennon and Yoko Ono first showed the message of "Love & Peace" in public appearances. The idea of this event of planting two acorns in an east-west direction was developed as their collaboration work intended for display at the contemporary sculpture exhibition at the Coventry Cathedral in England. A pair of acorns was a symbol of meeting and love of John, born in England, and Yoko, born in Japan. At the same time, it was expressive of their hope for uniting east and west. Though the sculpture exhibition's organizer was reluctant to display the living acorns as a work, the two buried the acorn pot in the grounds of Coventry Cathedral with a shovel in their hand, and the planting ceremony was carried out with no problems. Considering John's thoughts that everybody would understand John and Yoko's feelings when looking at a big oak tree in 50 years, a white bench was placed as a spot to contemplate the growth of the acorns.
At the John Lennon Museum, we will give acorns to visitors from June 15, in hope that they will bring them home to plant and that John and Yoko's message of Love & Peace continues to be handed down.
Date & Hour: From June 15, 2006 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
