KarmaDyana on Chapter 27 and Johns legacy

A quick thanks KarmaDyana from IMDB for this nice post:

Wow, the making of this movie illustrates just how much emotion the killing of John Lennon still brings up in people, even after all these years.

I was 21 and sitting in my crappy apartment playing "Mother" by John Lennon (ironically) on my acoustic guitar when my cousin called to tell me that he had been murdered. I'll never ever forget it. It knocked the wind out of me, and changed my belief system regarding the idea that there is goodness in all of us. I harbored outright hatred for MDC for many, many years due to his irrevocable, incomprehensible actions. Eventually, I realized I was giving him 'power' by concentrating on his negative actions, instead of celebrating John Lennon's positive contributions to humankind.

I, like millions of people, was a huge fan of JL's, and owned every album that he ever made (still do). Also, like many others, I felt a strong attachment to him, even having never met him. To this day, I can't hear the song "Imagine" without breaking into tears. I know all of this sounds lame, but it's a testament to how much his music, his character, and actions outside the studio meant to me.

Yoko Ono herself said in an interview once that she would never speak of MDC because by doing so, it would further his cause to get what he most sought: Notoriety and infamy.

Yes, this is just a movie, but I've read enough about Chapman throughout the last 25 years to know his side of the story, and I have no desire to see it re-hashed on the big screen--for profit. If that makes me closed-minded and ridiculous, than so be it.

On a final note, John's own words remind us that everything that goes around, comes around:

"Instant karma’s gonna get you; gonna look you right in the face.
Better get yourself together darlin’, join the human race." ~~ John Lennon
