An exchange between 2 individuals around Chapter 27

If I'm not thinking about politics and policy, I'm often thinking about movies. So what would interest me more than seeing that there was a call to boycott the movie Chapter 27 Starring Jared "next Johnny Depp" Leto and Lindsay "next Tara Reid" Lohan. Now here's an issue we can really sink our collective teeth into!

The movie is an independent production about Mark David Chapman. He's the maladjusted horrible little man that took John Lennon away from us in 1980. Some argue that the movie should be boycotted because this gives Chapman, who has been in special custody since 1980, the fame he craved.

What's most ironic is that one of the people leading the boycott is Don Murphy. He's the producer of Natural Born Killers. You may remember Natural Born Killers from back when people were busy organising boycotts about it. Anyway, I was on Don Murphy's message board recently - I go there now and then because Murphy is a foul mouther temper tantruming bully - you know, the kind of guy that is ALWAYS fun to read - who is busy turning the new transfomers movie into a new episode of Herbie the Love Bug alongside Director, Michael Bay.

Now Cicero may have a libertarian streak or something but if you want to boycott art you had better have a VERY good reason. I don't think this qualifies.

Anyway, if you go here you can see me fight with him on his message board. Its an entertaining fight. I make points. He calls me "dickbunny", bans me from posting and changes my login name to "cuminginpants". And, oh yeah, tried to release my email address so people could spam bomb me. edit: Then apparently thinks better of that idea in a re-edited post above.

Clearly Cicero is a dickbunny and Don Murphy is the man, but what do I know

Yo Howard. Love your show. Long time listener, first time poster. John Lennon was murdered in 1980, not 1981. Good luck with the new network!

Have any of you heard of James Earl Ray?? Yeah, well he happened to have killed Martin Luther King Jr. I'm sorry that Lennon was killed and that he "stood" for peace. That was a tragedy. But if a movie had been made about James Earl Ray would there be this much hoopla?? Would people have taken the time and energy to set up web sites about boycotting the film, posting petitions, and asking for donations?? Would Howard Stern - what a joke - have joined the masses of the naysayers?? I don't think so. Regardless of the reasons for these murders, if you want to keep talking about "peace", well... there are plenty of other assassins/murderers who took the innocent lives of people who were doing a lot more to achieve peace other than by writing music. I’m sorry, but go out and buy a history book. I don’t know why I feel the need to say this, but no, I’m not African American. I just find it a little disturbing that this film has sparked such a controversy when I know, damn well, there wouldn’t be one had this been a different film. Ok, take out the race issue… Lee Harvey Oswald?? Have any of you heard of him?? AND, DUH, THAT STERN GOT THE YEAR WRONG. HE'S A GENIOUS.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what does a hatred for James Earl Ray or Oswald have to do with people asking you not to support a company looking to cash in on Lennons death.
Give peace a chance people, were all in this together

Colscott is no better than Murphy. He's the only person who has tried to post on my blog other than Murphy (who, as I said, banned me). So far he has insulted me for being Canadian, making him a xenophobe. He has mocked me daring to argue with Murphy's position on this because I am just a lawyer from an insignificant province and Don Murphy is the producer of next year's biggest film (and therefore apparently above criticism from the lowly likes of me.) He has called me a "douche" for disagreeing with this boycott idea - and then dared to chastise me for not posting his foolish defamatory comments on my blog while not saying word one about my banning from the murphy board. I have an honest difference of opinion on this topic, but have attempted to argue it like an adult on its merits. Even if I have failed at that exacting standard from time to time, I certainly can't be criticised by people who employ these obnoxious tactics, nor will I engage with them in a lengthy sniping contest on my blog after being banned from their forum. I made my substantive point to my satisfaction and have no problem with other points of view. I respect them.

I have now made a second point: that these folks have acted in an extremely childish fashion.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I don't agree with your boycott but I know your hearts are in the right place.
