Chapter 27 DVD release, another failure
Unreal, keep this guy a star while he bashes John Lennons memory. Oh. Still, the lengths to which Leto went for his latest role might seem just a tad extreme. To play John Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman, in J.P. Schaefer's new indie film, "Chapter 27," opening in limited release Friday, Leto packed 67 pounds onto his lanky frame to better approximate the killer's doughy physique. By the end of filming, the extra weight had taken such a toll that he could no longer walk to the set.
It's easily his most dramatic transformation to date.
"I'm not sure it was the wisest choice," he admits. "A friend of mine was recently going to gain weight for a film, and I did my best to talk him out of it. Just because you can lose the weight doesn't mean the impact it had on you isn't there anymore."
The abruptness of Leto's weight gain gave him gout and a doctor's recommendation to take Lipitor. But Leto says slipping into Chapman's skin was the best way to understand him. "The script didn't say, 'Page 1: You gain 67 pounds, and you're miserable for two months.' But as I started to research, I realized that the physical representation of this guy had so much to do with who he was."
Leto, who these days spends more time touring with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, than he does on film sets, laces his answers with spontaneous condemnations of Chapman's homicidal fandom. But as an actor, he put such judgments aside. "As unfortunate as it can be to hear this, he was a human being," Leto says. "A failure of a human being. A very sick and disturbed individual. But when you're an actor playing a part, you don't play a monster. Or at least I don't know how to do that. You have to try to understand the human being there."
In addition to changing his body, Leto altered his voice to echo Chapman's eerily courtly Southern drawl. "He was very bottled up and you could hear it in his voice," Leto says. "Everything was closed off. He barely ever speaks above a whisper and everything is kind of choked off in the throat. He was, in the strangest way, a very polite, genteel kind of person, and he certainly thought of himself as a gentleman, which is so strange for someone committing such a horrifying and despicable act."
Leto relied on interviews with Chapman, who is serving a sentence of 20 years to life at Attica prison near Buffalo, N.Y., for reference, and on audiotapes recorded by an elderly librarian the actor met during a visit to Chapman's hometown of Decatur, Ga. "I pored over that for hours and hours," Leto says. "You can't find someone in this day and age who talks like this. It's kind of from another time."
Chapman had many obsessions, not just Lennon and the Beatles, but "The Catcher in the Rye" and "The Wizard of Oz," both stories of young people adrift in worlds they cannot comprehend. As Leto plays Chapman, he seems like a child not just in his timidity but in his explosive rages, to say nothing of his unhealthy attachment to a pop star. (The movie's title refers to Chapman's belief that he was carrying on the ideas laid down in J.D. Salinger's "Catcher." The book has 26 chapters.)
Next for Leto is Jaco van Dormael's "Mr. Nobody," a surrealistic time-travel odyssey in which Leto plays 12 versions of the same character, "including a 120-year-old man and a Neanderthal." Among those personae is a role that even Leto finds intimidating: a normal guy.
"I wasn't playing a drug addict or a psychopath, but one of the characters is married with kids," he says. "Playing a father was one of the more terrifying things that I've had to do on film." Prepaid customers will make up about 10 percent of all iPhone 3G buyers once the device launches, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. He believes those people are likely to be international subscribers who don't feel like tying themselves into contracts and service agreements (I'm sure we can all relate to that sentiment).
Because they won't be tying themselves into such commitments, however, they also won't be able to receive some of the heavy subsidies that carriers are now offering for the new device. Munster believes that prepaid subscribers will end up having to pay more than $600 per unsubsidized iPhone 3G, making that a threefold markup from the $199 purchase price here in the US (and only about $100 higher than the low-end iPhone's original purchase price when it launched a year ago).
Because of this, however, Munster predictably says that these customers won't exactly be in the majority—in fact, according to his notes seen by AppleInsider, Munster says they won't even make up a proportionate share of sales. The report was apparently issued as a response to "growing concerns" among investors that selling iPhones in markets where prepaid devices dominate would dilute the device's value.

Chapter 27 isn’t the type of widely focused study of a real life event and man that we usually get. It is, instead, a fascinating study of the inner workings of the mind of an obsessive fan and psychopath. The film tells the story of Mark David Chapman, and the three days leading up to the infamous killing of Beatle John Lennon.
Apart from Jared Leto’s utterly fascinating performance there isn’t much to Chapter 27. The whole film rests on Leto and that requires a considerably great performance, and I am happy to say Leto delivers. In a "Christian Bale in The Machinist"-type exercise, Leto has changed his weight considerably for the role, gaining over 60 pounds to not only play Chapman but to become him.
You’re either going to love and appreciate having to watch this man and his actions or you’re going to feel tortured by it. For Beatles fans this is going to be one tough film to watch, and perhaps one that will instill hatred for how plainly it displays the event that happens. But as someone who’s not a Beatles fan, I found the sense of realism and truth to it all the more interesting. However, as I said, this film isn’t really about John Lennon, or his untimely death, but the mind of his killer — how he ended up coming all the way from Hawaii to New York and the motives behind his actions. By the film’s end Leto's performance justified my having watched this messed-up guy for 80 minutes, if for no other reason than to get a sense of what it must have been like to be there on the day the killing took place.
I guess in my recommendation I am not really recommending the film itself, but rather Leto’s quite stunning performance. I find him a much underrated actor anyway and hopefully this will get his acting talent noticed by more people. The film certainly hasn’t been getting positive reviews from the majority, something which I can’t quite fathom. Maybe it was just my taking to the film and Leto’s performance that I can’t see past and that maybe most people just don’t see anything positive. I will chalk this up as one of the most underrated films of 2008.
It’s very interesting how first time writer/director J.P. Schaeffer goes about telling this man’s story; he chooses some very unorthodox techniques as far as when and how he shows the events. We know from the first few minutes of the film that Chapman has already killed Lennon and is in a mental hospital telling the story to “someone” and the identity of that someone is a nice little twist to the film. On day one of the three days we will see Chapman in a cab talking to the driver about where he came from and where he’s going and suddenly we will be flashed a few frames of Lennon’s body being taken away in an ambulance. The film acknowledges that we all know what happened on December 8, 1980 in New York City and thus it goes about telling the story accordingly.
Not unlike last year’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, the film portrays Chapman as half of what he was – an obsessive fan. The other half, which is unlike Jesse James, is he’s a killer and a psychopath. Both films have weaker, more obsessive characters than each of their celebrities and there’s a strange “must do it” mentality to them both. Even though they are their victims' “biggest fans” they ultimately are the undoing of them.
I am not quite sure that Chapter 27 has enough in it to sustain its 80 minute runtime. Although the film had me for a good hour of it I did feel, even at such a short length, that it dragged. However Leto is fascinating enough in the role and his performance is what ultimately makes the film thoroughly worthwhile.

Jared Leto put on some 60 pounds to play John Lennon assassin MDC, a feat that some have likened to Robert De Niro's transformative weight gain for "Raging Bull."
Well, there's nothing raging about "Chapter 27."
The feature debut from writer-director Jarrett Schaefer is a lethargic, ponderous slog that feels much longer than its brief running time. Schaefer relies too heavily on voiceover to convey MDC's inner state, but he provides little insight.
We know MDC was obsessed with J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye" and even went so far as to believe he was the book's protagonist, Holden Caulfield. But over the three days in December 1980 when MDC stands outside the Dakota apartment building in New York, waiting for Lennon to emerge so he can shoot him, he thinks clunky, literal thoughts about the fact that - you guessed it! - he believes he's Holden and wants to kill John Lennon.
Leto does resemble MDC with his black hair, double chin and oversized glasses. Schaefer makes sure to have him loll about the hotel room several times in his tighty-whities to show off his jelly belly and his man boobs, the price this typically lean actor is willing to pay for his art. But mimicry alone isn't acting, and the raspy whisper-scream he uses for his interior monologues is annoyingly gimmicky - and it grates quickly.
Lindsay Lohan appears in a few scenes as a Lennon fan named - wait for it - Jude, who also stands outside the Dakota all day and inexplicably can't figure out that Chapman is one odd dude. It makes absolutely no sense that she would befriend this obviously off-putting person; aside from her Lennon obsession - which many fostered back then and some do still - she seems like a perky, sweet, well-adjusted young woman. (And since "Chapter 27" was filmed a couple years ago, long before Lohan's well-documented troubles with the law and substance abuse, it serves as a bittersweet snapshot of a simpler time for the magnetic young actress.)
Certainly, we know there's something seriously wrong with this guy. We know it before we even walk into the theatre. And the knowledge that he's going to empty a revolver into Lennon's back by the time the film's done should provide a palpable sense of tension from the very beginning. Think of the sensations of dread and fear the excellent "United 93" caused, for example.
Schaefer squanders that possibility completely with his languid pacing and simplistic script, which he based on Jack Jones' collection of interviews, "Let Me Take You Down: Inside the Mind of Mark David Chapman." (The film's title comes from "The Catcher in the Rye," which ended at chapter 26.)
"I'm going to tell you what happened to me right around last Christmas, those three days in New York City," Chapman narrates at the film's start. And later, as he's walking toward Lennon's home: "I went up to the Dakota, the strange building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan." Later still, to no one in particular: "I'm going to kill John Lennon."
You don't say!
Probably the most ironic (and cringe-inducing) statement of all comes as Chapman is railing against the movies: "I hate the movies. They're phoney." Right, except it's the unwatchable ones - such as "Chapter 27" - that draw attention to their phoniness.
There is one scene, though, that offers a bit of intrigue. The night before the murder, Chapman picks up the phone and orders a prostitute to come to his hotel room. He figures he wants a little female companionship, since it may be his last opportunity. He wants her to be exotic and he doesn't want her to talk - he'll pay her extra if she doesn't talk.
Once she arrives you wonder, what's going to happen? This person who is so socially maladjusted, how will he behave in this situation?
For a moment or two, it's almost enough to make you imagine a better movie.
One star out of four.

The long-delayed John Lennon assassination movie, Chapter 27, featuring former hook-up partners Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan is finally hitting US theaters on March 28th. Um, on limited screens.
The movie premiered at Sundance LAST January. It then went on to play on Russian TV and then straight to DVD in Finland and Greece.
Is there something wrong with it? Don't things usually come out on the big screen in the US before hitting TV and DVD internationally?

Peace Arch Entertainment shares under $1 and Chapter 27 movie reviews get worse
The bad Karma of Chapter 27 builds everyday. The stock of the films backers is now trading around $1.04, a far cry from the $3 a share, last year. Please join us in continuing the pressure on PAE and Boycott Chapter 27, not only on its theater release in March, but equally as important on the release of the DVD soon to follow. I could use a bit of help over here. I'm trying to decide whether or not this is a joke. If it is, it's a poor one. If it's not, it's still fairly poor and I think terribly less of the film industry. Not that I had a very high opinion to begin with...The premise of this movie makes a travesty of the death of one of the most important figures in our century's history; it is the equivalent of a sympathetic biopic on Judas. I may not be able to stop it from being produced, but not only will I not see the film, I will encourage everyone I know not to see the film.
John is the legend, not his Killer. Remember love. Forget hate. And, to the opposers: "He already has the fame he wanted...So, continue with the film" etc. Ok, people have already died in Darfur.... Let's forget about them... it's too late. Peace is impossible. Let's forget about that, too. ... I wish I could post a few comments on the opposer's sites. All Lennon fans: Wear your "Give Peace A Chance" stuff on the release date. Throw Bed-Inns! Sit in front of theaters...Practice total communication! Show love to your fellow peers. NASA will beam the Beatles’ “Across The Universe” to the star Polaris, 431 light years away (that’s 431 years travel at the speed of light before our all-time favorite Beatles song reaches the 2.5 quadrillion miles away star). This is being done to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song, the 45th anniversary of NASA’s Deep Space Network, an international network of antennas that supports missions to explore the universe, and the 50th anniversary of NASA.
Across the Universe
NASA has invited people around the world to play “Across the Universe” on their audio systems at the same time NASA beams its mp3 version into outer space. The idea was hatched by Beatles’ historian Martin Lewis, who encourages all Beatles fans to play the track as it is being beamed to the distant star. Additionally, this date will be known as “Across the Universe Day”. The event marks the first time a radio song has been beamed into deep space.

An intergalactic celebration of The Beatles is launched on Monday with the beaming of their peace anthem "Across the Universe" into outer space.
The man behind the idea, which marks the 40th anniversary of the recording of the song in 1968, is an avid Beatles fan who has persuaded U.S. space agency NASA to kick off the party and now hopes to convert alien life forms to The Beatles.
"At the moment we are sending up Morse code as a way of contacting aliens," Martin Lewis told BBC radio. "Maybe we should send them something a little more cheery."
If all goes according to plan, NASA will transmit the Beatles tune via its deep space network at Midnight British time.
At exactly the same time, fans across the world are being asked to play "Across The Universe" in a bid to "create a harmonic convergence" around planet earth and throughout the universe.
According to a statement from NASA, the transmission will be aimed at the North Star, Polaris, which is 431 light years away from earth. The song will travel across the universe at a speed of 186,000 miles per second.
Former Beatle Paul McCartney, who beamed his first intergalactic concert to the International Space Station in 2005, congratulated NASA and asked them to pass on his regards to anyone else out there.
"Amazing! Well done, NASA!" he said in a statement released by the space agency. "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."
Fans can watch the event online via the Web site www.acrosstheuniverseday.com.

Although the early reviews for Chapter 27 were pretty bad, they're nothing compared to some of the latest we've found. As the movie is set to be released in US theaters we remain confident that people will not see this horrible movie.
There was a lot of back-and-forth as to whether or not Lindsay Lohan would take time off from rehab to promote "Chapter 27" at Sundance, but there's no reason for her to be here in the first place. She has a very small role, and no one would have asked her about it anyway.
I saw the movie last night. Lindsay has a small role, she's only in it for about 20 minutes. Jared Leto is in every scene, and he put on a LOT of weight.
Honestly, I don't know who this movie is for. It's not very good. Jared obviously put a lot into his role (he's also listed as Executive Producer), but it's a one-note performance.
The odds were kind of stacked in his favor — portraying Lennon's killer as a monster prevents the film from being emotionally engaging, while humanizing him would have caused a lot of backlash (like humanizing Hitler).
It's depressing, disturbing and uncomfortable to watch. Wants to be like "Taxi Driver," but doesn't even come close. Might be of mild interest to Lennon fans (or not), but no one else.
Is Peace Arch Entertainment on the brink of being delisted from the Stock Exchange?
After discussions with Peace Arch representatives, the Ontario Securities Commission ("OSC") has agreed that the current Management Cease Trade Order issued on December 24, 2007 will remain in place to allow Peace Arch additional time to complete the statements provided Peace Arch continues to comply with the alternative information guidelines of the OSC.
"Our filings have been delayed because we are integrating the financial results of three private companies we acquired during the fiscal year, our CEO was replaced shortly before the original filing deadline, and management has determined under applicable variable-interest entity accounting rules to consolidate the results of numerous privately held, single picture production companies from whom Peace Arch acquired distribution rights during the fiscal year," said Jeff Sagansky, Chief Executive Officer of Peace Arch Entertainment. "We are determined to ensure that the Company is in good financial standing, and we believe this additional time will allow us to finalize our year-end filing and enable Peace Arch to enter 2008 on a firm financial footing. We confirm once again that other than the release of our statements, there is no material information concerning the affairs of the Company that has not been generally disclosed as of the date of this announcement."
Peace Arch originally anticipated filing its annual statements during the week of December 9, 2007. Despite its best efforts, management subsequently determined that further time was required to prepare those filings and for its independent auditors to complete their audit. Based on the work done to date, management's best estimate at this time is that the annual audited financial statements will be filed by February 29, 2008. As a result of not filing its 2007 financial statements, Peace Arch also has not yet filed its financial statements for the first quarter ended November 30, 2007. First quarter results will be filed shortly after the Company files its annual statements.

We have spoken about the greedy individuals, willing to put their morals aside and purchase stock in Peace Arch Entertainment. Hoping like management to profit from Chapter 27, basically making money off of the murder of John Lennon. I have also stated that I believe these individual stock holders are worse in many ways than John Flock, Linsay Lohan, and Jared Leto. This is an update from the analyst from ThinkIntrinsic, one of the very few Wall Street firms that follow Peace Arch Entertainment, the company that has produced Chapter 27. This is a copy of the email I received, including the links to his latest coverage on a stock that he had built up in the last few years. But for the most part the future of the company is not clear so I have avoided speculation and will wait until the earnings release and more information before forming an opinion.
Since the last mention about PAE on this site (we have talked about it some more on the blog) PAE's CEO has left the company. The Chairman, Jeff Sagansky, is interim CEO and PAE is looking to acquire ContentFilm, a UK-based film company with a large library and distribution business. PAE's vision has changed and we think this acquisition is more like a merger, given that ContentFilm is larger than PAE.
We also think that Sagansky has no reason to stay on as CEO and that a CFL executive will likely take that position. I would also like to note that Sagansky has sold one of his companies to CFL in the past and has a large ownership stake. It is not clear whether PAE wanted to merge with CFL all along but Howsam (former CEO and regarded by most as the founder) did not want to.
From here, I have not written PAE off but have sold my shares pending a valuation analysis of CFL. I am also unclear on the future direction of the company because CFL is larger than PAE so I must familiarize myself with CFL and see how it may affect the combined company's strategy going forward. For instance, CFL has intentionally avoided the production business, but PAE recently expanded its production operations with an acquisition in mid-2007.

PAE Since the CEO was fired/quit, I’ve unloaded all of my shares. When the integrity of a founding CEO is questioned, holding onto the stock cannot be justified unless the new management has proven that they can hold their own and that their morals have not been influenced by their former-CEO. Also, it is unclear to what extent Howsam’s presence was fundamental to the execution of deals. We also don’t know if the acting-CEO will remain or if the Board is looking for somebody else.

We are quickly approaching the end of our battle. Chapter 27 has bombed and quickly disappeared from theaters throughout the world. Even with Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan, it will no doubt fail in the United States as well. Peace Arch Entertainment appears to be headed towards shareholder lawsuits, continuing to delay earnings filings. There CEO has been fired after being arrested for fraud. Chapter 27 has cursed the production company and all those involved . So our question.... Where do we go with the site...Which has built a rather large and very loyal following. Chapter 27 (Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan) was released in Japan on the day of John Lennons murder (while Yoko Ono was dedicating a memorial to her late husband). 27 years to the day that a peaceful man and musical genius was taken from us. We are excited to say that the movie is already disappearing from Japanese theaters, Chapter 27 may not make it through a single weekend. Peace Arch Entertainment has terribly misjudged the people of Japan. A population of huge Beatles fans has fought back, by avoiding Chapter 27. Last Saturday, it was 27 years since ex-Beatle John Lennon was shot and killed by a deranged scumbag.
Two movies about the life and death of this peace-loving pop icon/music genius will soon be out here. So, which sounds more appealing: the upbeat, informative, rah-rah one? Or the dreary, uninformative, I'd-chew-my-leg-off-to-get-out-of-here one? I guess it depends on your mood.
・"The U.S. vs. John Lennon" (called "Peace Bed--America vs. John Lennon" in Japan) has a litigious title and made its cable debut on music channel VH1. But fear not: This is not some ludicrous hybrid of Court TV hype and "Behind the Music" melodrama. It is instead good, old-school storytelling: a 99-minute film rich in material that tells a relevant yarn about interesting people, including colorful former newsmakers who are as outspoken as ever. (Wow. Talk about aging boomers! Except Angela Davis, the communist organizer/ex-FBI-list fugitive acquitted in a sensationalist murder trial in the early 1970s--she still looks hip.) The film does well to venture beyond the courtroom; it gathers up the threads of the lawsuit story throughout Lennon's life and then weaves them together into a big zeitgeist tapestry.
The background in a nutshell: By the late 1960s, Lennon was lending his star power to support antiwar, anti-establishment groups. U.S. President Richard Nixon was up for re-election in 1972, and the voting age had just dropped to 18. The administration was paranoid that Lennon's activism would spur young people to vote Nixon out. U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond proposed nullifying Lennon's influence by revoking his visa and kicking him out of the country. The FBI, functioning as political police, gathered intelligence on Lennon for the case. He refused to go quietly.
The story is told by those involved, many of them famous/notorious: former FBI agents including convicted Watergate co-conspirator G. Gordon Liddy (repeating his crack about using a hippie's candle to light his cigar); Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panthers; even poet-activist John Sinclair, who got up to 10 years for giving two joints to an undercover cop. (Sinclair has funny things to say about the cross purposes of smoking marijuana while trying to get it legalized.)
Besides interviews, the story is also told in archive footage of Lennon and others doing talk shows, concerts, protests and so on.
Much of this was before my time, so I can't speak for how rare the footage is, but I will say that hindsight makes for some smug watching. Besides the in-bed protests (with Tommy Smothers!), other choice snippets include a snooty editor from The New York Times telling Lennon he was "ridiculous" and that his song "All You Need Is Love" was a joke.
The footage of Lennon and Yoko Ono is surprising, too. Ono, long blamed and reviled by many for the breakup of the Beatles, has often been painted with a witchy brush in documentaries about the Fab Four. But here, there's no pretense that she's evil. The portrait is kind, if jumbled: Lennon and Ono come across variously as astute rebels, wacky artists, naive activists, scared foreigners. The constant is that Lennon seems truly in love with Ono, even geekily so.
Obviously, in contrasting the vehement antiwar protest movement of the Vietnam era ("Power to the people!") with today's lackluster campaigns, the film has an agenda--that people today should be doing more than blogging to protest the war in Iraq. But you can also watch this film in a specific historic sense to see this legal episode in Lennon's life unfold. Overall, this is an engrossing film, one I wouldn't mind rewatching.
・So, why did MDC shoot Lennon? Because MDC was nuts. OK, yes, but what exactly was it that made him want to kill the ex-Beatle with the cool granny glasses?
"Chapter 27" apparently doesn't know, or isn't telling. Despite our cinematically spending a meandering three days (Dec. 6-8, 1980) with MDC until the murder in New York, all we get out of the encounter is a big moue of distaste at the whole proceedings. MDC (Jared Leto) does a lot of mumbling about phonies and how much he thinks he's like Holden Caulfield of J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye." When he's not repeating to himself that he needs to kill Lennon, he's spewing his anti-homosexual diatribes and other garbage.
Even troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan, who makes brief, unremarkable appearances as another fan, doesn't buoy things along. (A bit of trivia: Lennon is played by Mark Lindsay Chapman (ridiculous stunt hiring him to play Lennon) --apparently not a close relation. Also, the title refers to a continuation of "A Catcher in the Rye.")
To be sure, this is an atmospheric bit of independent filmmaking by first-time director-writer J.P. Schaefer. Visually, it seems to be fairly in tune with ugly 1980s fashion in New York, with its embrace of unflattering tinted glasses and patterned sweaters. Besides, you can almost feel the bitter winter wind whipping through Central Park to the Dakota building, where Lennon and Ono lived.
And surely the physical repulsiveness of the MDC specimen comes through, though this seems to be a bit of grandstanding by the actor, who porked up for the role. More often than is necessary, Leto/MDC's sloppy naked paunch appears in profile, drooping over his tightie whities.
MDC is an unpleasant companion for 85 minutes, more so since we learn little in that time. Dispiriting, drab and uninsightful, "Chapter 27" is one to skip.

It was on this day in 1980 that John Winston Ono Lennon was taken away from us when a crazed fanatic murdered him for no reason or excuse whatsoever.When the man who murdered him was asked for a motive,he only said that he felt that he was a nobody and by murdering John Lennon,he would finally be somebody.Another theory was that it was a "reverse suicide" when a psychologist explained that "He had already tried to kill himself but failed,so he murdered John Lennon." Whatever the reasons that the murderer had,they were null and void.John Lennon's murder was as inexcusable and senseless as any murder of a human being.Plus,the man who did this had no reason or excuse to do this evil deed.But he did it only to become famous.But again,that reason,as any other reason he may have had,that reason as well as those others,are null and void. John Lennon did not deserve to die.He deserved to live as much as any other human being has.Since that day he was murdered,we are still mourning the loss and still crying over this trying to figure out WHY?! When John Lennon was born on October 9th 1940 in Liverpool England,Fred and Julia Stanley Lennon did not realize at the time that their baby son would help in later changing musical history forever when a little band that he helped form when he was still a youth took on the world by storm when their very first UK hit would be released.Few in their country gave them a chance and had doubts.But when Love Me Do was released,that record would be the start of an invasion on the world music scene in epic proportions.That happened when I Want To Hold Your Hand hit #1 in the UK,later in the USA and the rest of the world that would propel that band,named The Beatles,to worldwide stardom that to this day has never let up.Beatle music still continues to sell and their songs have been covered by a wide variety of musical talent.Their songs are still playing on the radio everywhere.They have never been out of style and their music has been cherished and embraced by the world over and over in many ways shapes and forms.Their break-up caused tears and other mixed feelings as personal problems within the band continued to boil over.But their music still remained a driving force when many bands and artists named them as an influence on their music. John Lennon went solo and scored many numerous hits during his solo career.He also wrote and recorded a beautiful anthem named Imagine that still continues to be embraced by every one of his fans and admirers the world over and has been covered by the likes of Diana Ross,Neil Young and Dolly Parton.Imagine continues to be his most enduring song in his catalog.It also is still being played on the radio to this very day.He had many other hits like Mind Games,Whatever Gets You Through The Night,#9 Dream,Stand By Me,(Just Like)Starting Over,Woman and Watching The Wheels.But Imagine remains his most beloved and enduring song and the hymn for countless generations hoping that one day the world will one day live in indefinite peace without having to worry about war,hatred,struggles and suffering. After making a comeback in 1980 and having a highly successful comeback album,the end came too swiftly for John Lennon. When John and his wife Yoko Ono were returning from a late night recording session at the Record Plant in New York, a 25 year old man walked up to John calling to him and fired four shots into him.The murderer was arrested on the spot 20 minutes later as Lennon's bloodied body was taken over to Roosevelt Hospital in a patrol car in hopes that there was still a chance that his life could still be saved if they could get to the hospital as fast as they could.But tried as they did,they did not succeed.Lennon was pronounced dead when desperate attempts to save his life by doctors proved unfruitful.When news announced that John died,tears were shed and anger was unleashed.Tears because John was gone and never coming back.Anger at the man who inexcusably murdered him all because he wanted to be famous. To this day,after his plea of guilty, THAT MAN who murdered John Lennon still remains imprisoned with parole applications being rejected since the year 2000,when his eligibility started.His next parole chance will be next year.Let's hope that it will be rejected again. Let's all remember John Lennon on the day he was murdered. I will be doing a tribute to John tonight when I go to sing.I will be singing songs that John sang solo and when he was in The Beatles. "Now I'll be famous" - The larger problem with Chapter 27
Although many who read our blog are compelled to write us emails about our "wasted time" and our "over the top" love for John Lennon and The Beatles, we would like to step away from Chapter 27for just a moment to remember those killed in Omaha yesterday. Why did a young man walk in to a shopping mall and kill 8 innocent Holiday Shoppers? The explanation was in his note......"Now I'll be famous"
We have no way of knowing this persons demons, but can you see our point on Chapter 27? It's bigger than John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Lindsay Lohan, and Jared Leto. Its much bigger than Boycott call against Peace Arch Entertainment. It's learning from history, hoping to prevent future tragedies similar to the assassination of John Lennon. If Actors and production companies are willing to profit from Johns murder, how can we be surprised that history repeats itself.
Man Opens Fire at Omaha Mall, Killing 8 OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A man opened fire with a rifle at a busy department store Wednesday, killing eight people in an attack that made holiday shoppers run screaming through a mall and barricade themselves in dressing rooms.
The young shooter, who left a note predicting, "Now I'll be famous," wounded five others, two critically, then took his own life.
Witnesses said the gunman sprayed fired down on shoppers from a third- floor balcony of the Von Maur store using what police said was an SKS assault rifle they found at the scene.

Remembering George Harrison On The Day He Died 6 Years Ago.
Today,we are remembering another member of The Beatles who was taken away from us 6 years ago today.His name is George Harrison. George Harrison was born on February 25th 1943 in Liverpool England.He was the youngest of four children,his older siblings being his sister Louise and his brothers Peter and Harry.George was a friend of another young man who would also be a Beatle years later named Paul McCartney.Like his friend Paul and,at the time,the unmet John Lennon,George was given a guitar at an early age by his mother and he taught himself to play it by copying the classic rock and roll songs of the day by artists such as Buddy Holly,Little Richard,and others.Though George did make meat deliveries on the same street where John Lennon lived from the local butcher,George would not meet John Lennon until a chance meeting with him and The Quarrymen after Paul,who had already been a member for a short time,asked him if he would like to join.Of course,initially,George would fill in when needed but when he showed the band how a guitar can be properly tuned,he became one of The Quarrymen and the rest would be history. After personnel changes and a name change to The Beatles in 1960 after other names such as Johnny & The Moondogs and Long John & The Silver Beatles,and aquiring their first manager,Allan Williams,who supplied them with Pete Best to be their drummer,The Beatles were sent to Hamburg to play the Kaiserkeller club in the Reeperbaun district before moving over to the Top Ten club.One negative effect that almost ruined it for the band was when George was discovered by German authorities to be underage and the band had to be sent back home as a result of this.A month later,a birth certificate,though phony but unbeknown to the German authorities at the time,was on hand so the band could go back to Hamburg and continue working. It wouldn't be until a fateful day in 1962 when a young man named Brian Epstein walked into the Cavern Club and caught the band performing during their daily lunch time show.Brian was impressed by their stage presence and their musicianship.He offered to manage them and along with this came an overnight change from leather suits to well tailored men suits,their hair neatly combed down and clean shaven faces.He took photographs of them to show to the labels.After nearly a hard year,which included turn downs by the majority of English record labels,including a failed Decca audition,Brian got what he was seeking for the band when he met George Martin at Parlophone Records and requested that he meet them.After that meeting,George Martin set a recording date and alongside Brian Epstein,ordered that Pete Best be fired so a new drummer could be brought in.After Best was sacked,Richard Starkey,.a.k.a.Ringo Starr,would become their permanent drummer and the rest was history after that recording date led to an exclusive contract with Parlophone Records. From the early 1960's to 1970,The Beatles ruled the music world with hit after hit soaring up the charts everywhere.They were the receipients of MBE Medals in 1965 and George would marry his long time sweetheart Patti Boyd in 1966.After four films and 17 UK #1's and 20 US #1's The Beatles broke up forever after the release of their final album and film entitled Let It Be. George would go on to a very successful solo career with several Top 10 albums and singles,including 3 #1 singles in the USA and two #1 albums in the same country.He became the first Ex-Beatle to have a #1 single when My Sweet Lord hit #1 in the USA and the UK.All Things Must Pass,which My Sweet Lord was on,hit #1 almost immediately in the USA and #4 in the UK,despite many UK music historians claims that the album was a #1 album over there but because music sales calculations in the UK were not properly counted at the time,it wound up at #4.All Things Must Pass remains hailed as George's best album to date by critics and fans alike and would even hit the US charts again in 2001 when it was rereleased in a digitally remixed and remastered edition with several bonus tracks,where it reached #4 and finally reaching #1 in the UK. He also organized the first charity concert when he hosted The Concert For Bangla Desh at Madison Square Garden over a 2 day period with special guests Ringo Starr,Eric Clapton,Billy Preston,Leon Russell,Bob Dylan,Ravi Shankar and Badfinger.Other musicians at the concert included Klaus Voorman,Jim Keltner,Jesse Ed Davis,Don Preston,Carl Radle,The Hollywood Horns and a host of numerous background vocalists.The concert event was co-organized by Ravi Shankar.The event was recorded and released onto records and tapes and even filmed for future theatrical release.The film was released numerous times on home video and would debut on DVD in 2005 with a new documentary. George and Patti would divorce a few years after their marriage so Patti could marry Eric Clapton.George would later meet the love of his life in Olivia Arias who after discovering she was pregnant,married in 1978.Their son,named Dhani,was born soon after. George also tackled other mediums such as film production when he left the music business in 1981 after the release of his album Gone Troppo.He had a mixture of success,including winning a British academy award for Mona Lisa.After the negative Shanghai Surprise debacle in 1986,George returned to the music business releasing his first solo album in 6 years entitled Cloud Nine and his first solo single in 6 years,which was a remake of James Ray's Got My Mind Set On You.The single went all the way to #1 in the USA and the album was Top 10 on both sides of the world.This showed that George was sadly missed and the success of both the single and the album was like a warm welcome back to what George was known for best,which was making music.He also formed The Traveling Wilbury's band,which lasted only a short time.After Cloud Nine and two Traveling Wilbury's albums,he once again left the music business and would make only occasional public appearances and would guest star on many musicians albums such as ELO's album ZOOM in 2001 and on Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings song Love Letters. Two years prior to his death,George was the victim of an attack by a stalker who gained access in George's mansion and stabbed him numerous times puncturing a lung.George would survive this attack,which was two weeks after the anniversary of John Lennon's murder,but it would be the beginning of the end for George. On this day in 2001,George Harrison succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 58.Prior to his death,he was working on finishing that of which would be his final solo outing entitled Brainwashed,which was released a year later.He has been dead for 6 years. Three years after his death,he was inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist by his long time friend and fellow Traveling Wilbury member Tom Petty,with Olivia and Dhani Harrison also at the induction ceremony. On Saturday night,I will be singing a tribute to George by singing a few of his solo hits and songs that he sang while he was in The Beatles. The Answer - The individual who would be willing to compromise his/her integrity in order to attempt to profit from the stock of Peace Arch Entertainment. This is a losing proposition!!!! This is a company with no moral base of operation. There is clearly nothing more important than making a dollar. (which they have not done a good job of) The funny thing......INSTANT KARMAS GONNA GET YA!!! This is a "penny" stock and will remain as such. Most recently the CEO was arrested for Fraud and forced to resign. This is the individual running the company, it may be true that his crimes occurred before joining Peace Arch, but this is the person that the board of directors chose to lead this misguided company. If you fund this company by purchasing the stock, what will the funds be used for?? Whats next? Perhaps a film putting a positive spin on White Supremacists or perhaps the positive side of AIDS in the 80's. Is there no limit to what your hard earned dollars may be used for... The Toronto entertainment-content developer and distributor, said Gary Howsam voluntarily resigned as chief executive officer and a director. On Nov. 6, the company said in a statement that Howsam had been placed on administrative leave after he was arrested Nov. 5 "in connection with a U.S. federal investigation into certain transactions" between him and Comerica Bank before he joined Peace Arch in 2003. That statement also said Peace Arch was not a party to the investigation. And it said the board had named Co-Chairman Jeff Sagansky to the post of interim CEO.

As we watched the trailer for Chapter 27, we were absolutely amazed that the people involved in this film not only made John Lennons murderer (Jared Leto) into a "like-able" and "sympathetic" character, but he is shown somewhat of a hero (in the trailer aimed at teens). Wooing the female Beatles fan (Lindsay Lohan) and seemingly winning her affection. We never could have imagined that Peace Arch Entertainment could have gone as far as they did in presenting this film in such a positive light. John Flock how can you sleep at night?
We fought with ourselves and argued, with tempers flaring, as to whether or no to show this trailer on our website. We do apologize to our readers who feel we have done the wrong thing by showing this trailer. Unfortunately, despite all of our efforts, it has become clear that Peace Arch has every intention of not only releasing this film in theaters (and later DVD), but that the trailer will be running on national television. As such, we felt it best to present the trailer to further prove our point that not only are they looking to profit from John Lennon's death, but will probably be helping Johns' killer to eventually get paroled.

Please explain to teenagers and people in their 20's that Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto are doing fans of Art and Peace a horrible disservice by presenting Johns' killer in the light in which they have chosen to do so. This film does nothing more than setting the example that if a sick individual wants to gain fame and "live" forever, all they must do is murder a famous person. How could anyone in the entertainment industry portray this type of individual in a positive light?
"Chapter 27" and "The Killing of John Lennon" are two examples of the evil of living for MONEY!! When nothing matters more than profit, Where is the human race headed?

I really believe we can have 3000 signatures by year end. Together we can stop the financial success of Chapter 27. The film that puts John Lennons killer before John Lennons incredible work. Great work, not just in being the greatest song writer of all time, but as one of the true hero's for Peace in the 20th Century. We are also urging people NOT to see "The Killing of John Lennon", an equally distasteful film which will be released next month. Unfortunately, or fortunately one which we did not hear about until just last week. This films release is scheduled to coincide with the anniversary of John Lennons murder. Please take the $8 you would have spent on the movies and donate it to your favorite charity, you are sure to get more pleasure from that act than reliving the assassination of John. Next time you are tempted to see a movie from Peace Arch Entertainment, a film with Jared Leto, or Lindsay Lohan (which i would never understand). Consider an $8 donation to feed hungry children or help a war torn country.

Although we do enjoy when our message is spread and people look to honor the memory of John Lennon, Beatle great and hero of Peace. It unfortunately comes to us with bad news. IFC has decided to distribute Andrew Piddington's "The killing of John Lennon", a film that is of the same disturbing concept as Peace Arch Entertainments "Chapter 27". We are sure to do the appropriate research and urge people to join us in protesting "Lennon". We are hurt to find that yet another group of "artists" and Hollywood executives would look to honor the murderer that took John from all of us. The greed in peoples hearts will never cease to amaze us!!!
We had incredible help from some of those involved in Chapter 27, helping us to gather information regarding the film. We would ask anyone with knowledge of the film "Lennon", please come forward and help us to stop any financial success which IFC hopes to gain by disregarding the wishes of those who loved John.

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - The provocative British docudrama "The Killing of John Lennon" as well as a pair of U.S. comedies, Michael Lehmann's "Flakes" and Abel Ferrara's "Go Go Tales," are being picked up for North American distribution by IFC Entertainment.
Andrew Piddington's "Lennon," a re-enactment of the days surrounding MDC's shooting of John Lennon, is on track to beat another Chapman biopic to the screen: Jarrett Schaefer's "Chapter 27," starring Jared Leto, Judah Friedlander and Lindsay Lohan. "Lennon" is set for a theatrical and VOD release January 8 from IFC First Take, while "Chapter 27" will hit U.S. theaters in March from Peace Arch Releasing.
For some, the two Lennon assassination films are two too many. "Chapter 27" drew outrage from Beatles fans and mixed reviews when it premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival. After being shopped to indie distributors, producer Peace Arch Entertainment decided to release it through its newly launched distribution arm.
Piddington's film, due for a U.K. release in December on the eve of the anniversary of Lennon's 1980 murder, has drawn similar criticism but much less notice because of its smaller budget and lack of name stars. The protest Web site BoycottChapter27.org, which went online around the time that film was announced in spring 2006, has barely mentioned the U.K. film. "Lennon" had its North American premiere at this year's Tribeca Film Festival and was awarded a special jury prize.
IFC is taking a safer road with Lehmann's "Flakes," a comedy about a New Orleans cereal bar owner (Aaron Stanford) whose business concept is ripped off by a corporate executive. Zooey Deschanel co-stars as an avant garde clothing designer.
IFC also is in negotiations for North American rights to writer-director Ferrara's screwball comedy "Tales," which stars Willem Dafoe and Matthew Modine as a pair of sibling New York strip club owners whose joint is threatened. Bob Hoskins and Asia Argento co-star in the film, a selection at the Festival de Cannes and New York Film Festival. An IFC spokesperson said there was no deal completed on "Tales."

This sick bastard started mentally collapsing from the day her was born. This guy was born crazy and his mom, who was just as crazy, mentally abused him for years. The movie looks interesting (I might go see it despite not being a big Lindsay Lohan fan) but I hope it doesn't glorify or excuse Chapman for the senseless act he committed.
