I just got a phone call from an old friend who is a cop in Jersey,
He just let me know that Artie Lange of the Howard Stern show
was just rushed to an area hospital for an apparent overdose.

He expects it to hit the news wire within the hour.

Hope he is messing with me, but sounded serious

I met with director Jarrett Schaefer and Producer Bob Salerno and asked them some questions about the film …

Q: Tell us about your film:

JS: It’s about 3 days in New York City, Dec 6^th through 8^th. Following the man who’s going to shoot and kill John Lennon.

Q: There’s a controversial buzz around this film. What’s your opinion of the controversy?

JS: Yes, there is a controversy because this is a painful wound for the whole world. We know the controversy is because people feel this murderer should not get any further attention. But I feel like if we do discuss this terrible event and search for answers to understand why this happened, it’s a victory that may be available for us.

BS: I agree there is controversy, but I don’t know if I agree with it. This man shot John Lennon and the entire world knows his name. I don’t think our movie will make him more famous. It doesn’t glorify Mark Chapman nor vilify him. Instead it shows what happened these three days in 1980.

Mark Chapman was caught and pleaded guilty right away. So there was no trial. And people didn’t really get to discover just what went on. At the end of it all, there really isn’t an answer as to why Mark Chapman did it.

I don’t think we’ve done anything to harm the memory of John Lennon and what he stood for.

It’s important for people to know about this event. There was a whole generation of people who weren’t alive then.

Q: I didn’t know anything about Mark Chapman. For instance his obsession with Catcher in the Rye. How did you do your research on this person?

JS: We tried to be very accurate and factual with our depiction of Chapman. We may have moved one event that occurred in the day to the night…for filming purposes but we invented very little.

The NYC Police gathered much of the info. Their police statement provides the details. Chapman’s own account during parole hearings are available, and Jack Jones wrote a book called “Let Me Take You Down” that has many details from his 200 hours interviewing Chapman. Furthermore… he was interviewed on Larry King Live and in People Magazine. This is a very well-documented three days.

Q: Who played John Lennon for his brief appearance in the film?

JS: Mark Lindsay Chapman, who’s a talented British stage actor.

I was busy multitasking in pre-production and listening to a casting tape for the part. I’d gone through many people, but then I heard Mark Lindsey Chapman and it stopped and rewound the tape. I selected him then… it was just weird coincidence that he has a similar name to the killer. I didn’t want a look-alike, Mark Lindsey Chapman had the feeling of John.

I was once again visiting the IMDB on the Chapter 27 page and there was an interesting post from an IMDB user on the message board that is on that particular page from that movie.Apparently,her post does indeed hit it right on the money about how we on this board feel about John Lennon and also how we on this board feel about his murderer.Below is that person's post and my feelings regarding what she posted:

Your sentiments are my sentiments exactly and I wish people would forget about that guy and preserve the memory and legacy of a man who definitely was "One Of The Greatest Men Who Ever Lived" who is still loved and remembered by man in the world to this very day.Again,we need to preserve the as well as remember the memory and legacy of John Lennon and forget about the man who murdered him.THAT MAN does not deserve any fame or notoriety.He did what he did and we should forget about only him and keep remembering John Lennon.

However,I do disagree with your sentiments regarding the murderers state of mind.I do not think that the murderer was mentally ill or criminally insane.I think that he was legally sane at the time he murdered Lennon.In fact,he came to New York with the intention of murdering Lennon a year before he actually did it but changed his mind.Here's why I feel that he was legally same at the time he murdered Lennon:

1)He did travel to New York a year prior to the actual murder with the intent to kill John Lennon,but changed his mind.

2)He waited almost all day at the Dakota for Lennon to show up.While waiting,he talked to passers-by and even greeted John & Yoko's son Sean,who was 5 years old at the time,while he and his nanny were walking together and not only shook his little hand but also had the nerve to pat Sean on the head.

3)He simply called out "Mr.Lennon" when he saw him and immediately started shooting at 10:50p.m. on December 8th 1980.

4)He even watched John Lennon die in front of the Dakota proudly and did not make any attempt to flee.

5)When the Dakota doorman approached him and asked "Do You Realize What You Just Did?" He answered "Yes,I Just Shot John Lennon." without any apparent emotion.

6)He just sat there reading a book while Yoko Ono cried in pain and begged for John to stay alive while help was arriving.He did not even budge.

7)He never even bothered to ask if John Lennon was okay nor was he concerned when the news reported that he was dead.

8)At his arraignment,he declined psychiatric evaluations of any kind and simply pleaded GUILTY to the crime and willfully admitted what he did after his plea.Again,he showed no remorse nor any apparent emotion.He just simply said everything with a cold hearted attitude.

Hopefully,this proves my point.If not,then "Oh Well. I Tried."

But again,I do agree that we should preserve and remember the legacy and memory of John Lennon and let his murderer fade from public memory.

I just hope that he dies soon.That way,we can all breathe a sigh of relief and say to ourselves "John Lennon Can Finally Rest In Peace. His Murderer Is Finally Dead."

How Chapter 27 will kill Peace Arch Entertainment.

You may never read this story in the Wall Street Journal and it will not likely become a case study at Harvard Business School, but over the course of the next few week, we will begin to document how one immoral decision can destroy an organization. The decision by John Flock and Peace Arch Entertainment to finance Chapter 27 will prove to be their undoing. There is no escaping Karma, so while the Board of Directors at Peace Arch Entertainment treat the shareholders of the company like mushrooms (kept in the dark and fed shit), the company will wither and die based on one horrible decision.
The first example of Karma and the "Chapter 27 Effect" (as we will refer to it going forward), is the fact that the two major distributors bidding for "Delirious" have disappeared, did they leave because "Delirious" was not a good film NO, they have walked away because they have decided not to do business with Peace Arch Entertainment (PAE), solely on the basis that they did not have the ethics to refrain from "Chapter 27". The feeling was that this decision was so improper that they would prefer to "Do business elsewhere".
Listed below are some quotes from John Flock - president of PAE and the man responsible for Chapter 27. Listen as he sounds so confident regarding "Delirious" (by the way Steve Buscemi is the MAN), but is not confident know as his stock price has fallen 20% since the Sundance Hype.

"We are confident that the influential audiences at Sundance will find 'Delirious' particularly worthwhile," said John Flock, President of Peace Arch Entertainment. "Tonight's premier is yet another noteworthy validation of Peach Arch's ability to produce and acquire a wide variety of top quality entertainment projects that can provide a solid return on investment."

"Delirious" will have its North American premiere tonight in Sundance's exclusive Spectrum Program, which pays tribute to the abundance of compelling voices and the creative spirit of independent filmmaking.

"Delirious" had its world premiere at the 54th Annual San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, where it received three sought-after prizes. Writer-director Tom DiCillo ("Living In Oblivion" "Double Whammy" "The Real Blonde") earned both the Silver Shell for Best Director and the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay, and the film also received the SIGNIS Award from the festival's global jury.

The decision to finance Chapter 27 will be this companies undoing, watch as deal continue to fall apart as they press forward with this film.

The most incredible thing about this study is the fact that Peace Arch had some legitimate potential, if they decide to bury Chapter 27, never release it on dvd, take the loss, and apologize to the fans of John Lennon, this could all go away.

Hell after a sincere apology and the destruction of Chapter 27, I would be willing to increase my holdings in Peace Arch Entertainment (I currently hold 1 share of stock, this is to ensure that I am privy to all company info. including an invitation to the annual shareholders meeting)

Not a likely scenario, but continue to watch this company fall apart, and we will be here to document every little piece.

The Ugly (what better way to address Chapter 27)

For Jarrett Schaefer's "Chapter 27," Jared Leto put on 70 pounds to play Mark David Chapman, the man who shot and killed John Lennon in 1980. It's a full-bodied performance in every sense of the phrase; Leto wheezes and sinks into his doughy double-chin like a sunglasses-clad Stay-Puff Marshmallow-Man speaking whacked-out inner monologues in a breathy, one-note squeak that grates on the nerves. It's sad that Leto's commitment was wasted on a character that is so damned annoying.

Instead of approaching Chapman from a psychoanalytical perspective, Schaefer simply watches him during the week leading up to Lennon's murder. I understand that Schaefer is trying to make the point that we can't ever really understand why a person does something as insane as murdering another person in cold blood, but why pick someone as dull as Chapman to make this point? It's an approach that turns "Chapter 27" into a long slog through redundant schizophrenia and not much else.

Yet Another Negative IMDB user review on Chapter 27.When Will It End If It Ever Does?

First,I again want to thank Howard for his hard work and dedictaion to this message board.I appreciated his intelligent post from yesterday and I hope that it straightens everything out and puts those with negative attitudes in their place.

I was once again visiting the IMDB and I just caught the latest negative review on the film Chapter 27.It just keeps getting worse for this sad excuse for a movie that practically has not received no positive review as far as we know.The review was posted last night.If any of you have not caught it as of yet,below is where you wil find it for your reading pleasure in it's exact words:

Ugh.... slow and painful

"I saw the Sundance premiere of this film, and I want 2 hours of my life back. This film gives no insight to the killer, or why he did what he did. Jared Leto put on a ton of weight for this film(he lets you know it by spending too much time in his saggy white underpants, Ugh). Lindsay Lohan's character was nonexistant, so much that you wonder why she was in the film at all. Besides the character of Chapman, no one else is on screen long enough for you to care or have interest in them and after about 20 min the story doesn't tell us anything new about Chapman's character. The most interesting part of the film is that Mark Chapman(no relation) played John Lennon and having that be the most interesting thing about your film is sad."

There you go. With so much negative reactions be they critics or by users of the IMDB, we are learning all too well that Chapter 27 is a wrong number not just for the actors who wasted their talent in this worthless excuse for a film but mainly for Jarrett P. Schaeffer, the guy who wrote and directed this unloveable bad movie that seemingly is the unwritten chapter from Catcher In The Rye. I wonder what J.D.Salinger would say if he saw this movie or even heard of it. If this is supposed to be the continuation of Catcher In The Rye, then I don't know what the ending is going to be like and I don't want to think about it.

The only question on the inquiring minds of the contributors is "When Will It End If It Ever Does?" That is a good question, isn't it? It looks like that it is not going to end at least for now. But if it does end, we can breathe a sigh of relief and what happens after that remains to be seen.

It looks like that it won't get better in the forseeable future. No, I don't think it ever will be.

Responding to negative comments regarding the Chapter 27 boycott

For anyone to believe that the people involved in this website are "fascist" or against "Free Speech" are truly misguided. I for one have no problem with this movie being made, I have a problem with the reason for it being made. Chapter 27 was written and produced for one reason and one reason only. To make money, anyone who believes this film was made to do a psychological study of an insane murderer has no clue. Do you believe the shareholders of Peace Arch Entertainment, a publicly traded company, could care less why MDC killed John Lennon.
As for Free Speech (by the way, we have NEVER deleted any negative comments on this blog), not only are many of us financial supporters of EFF.org, but we volunteer our time to ensure that the government leaves what little is left of the First Amendment and citizens rights to privacy. Secondly, if you notice at the bottom of most of our posts , we offer a few "catch phrases" from the Howard Stern Show. You are not reading the writings of an uptight group of people, we just feel the need to educate people, before giving their hard earned dollars to the greedy pricks involved in Chapter 27.

Let me explain some of the motivation behind boycottchapter27.org and the petition that many of you dismiss out of ignorance. A boycott does not equal censorship (censorship by definition can only be carried out by a government or governing body). There is no correlation and obviously the correlation is inverse (as a boycott is the truest form of free speech), this boycott is being presented for 3 reasons.
The first of which is to work to cause any economic hardship possible for the company responsible for glorifying the murder of John Lennon, it's not being done for Yoko, or to damper free speak, only to spread the word of the greed being perpetrated by "Peace" Arch Entertainment.
The second is education; the teenagers of today are about to be sold a film utilizing "stars" (Lohan and Leto), with no understanding of just who was destroyed by this maniac (other than...Wasn't he the singer in the Beatles?, I think my mom listened to them).
Third, if this film and boycott can be used as a stepping-stone for a message of peace (especially to youngsters) or peaceful demonstration then perhaps all is not lost. Many of you pose yourself as intellectuals, but when you put down individuals attempting to make a difference, that my friends is not very intelligent.

Has anyone found a positive review of Chapter 27

This is amazing....in a world full of varying opinions, we may have found something all the critics can agree on....Chapter 27 just plain SUCKS.

I hate to borrow material from another film critic, but a colleague of mine offered the following words after we finished watching Chapter 27: "It's like a feature-length version of De Niro's 'You talkin' to me' speech from Taxi Driver -- only without Scorsese, Schrader or De Niro." I repeat that sentence because it perfectly encapsulates my own opinion on the deadly dull and seriously dreary Chapter 27, a movie that promises to offer some insight into why Mark David Chapman, on one chilly night in 1980, shot the beloved John Lennon to death. But after 90-some minutes of J.P. Schaefer's writing/directing debut, I was no closer to understanding Chapman's motivations than I was 90 minutes earlier. I know it has something to do with J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, but any other specifics are lost beneath waves of babble, tedium and pretense.

It just keeps getting better.....read on.

Lead actor Jared Leto earned himself a producer's credit on Chapter 27, and it's blatantly obvious from the first few frames of the flick that the young actor really, ahem, beefed up for the role. And Leto wants you to know it, which is why we see Chapman parading around in his tighty-whities for two or three scenes. Jared might as well look directly into the camera lens and scream "Look how much weight I gained for this role!" To make matters worse, Leto (who, to be fair, has done some excellent work in movies like Panic Room, American Psycho and Requiem for a Dream) opts to brandish a rather nasally high-pitched squeak of a voice, which makes Chapter 27 feel like a straight-faced parody of Capote. And I don't think that's what Leto and Company were going for.

So the bulk of the flick sees Leto as Chapman walking through the park, lazing in hotel rooms and standing around outside John Lennon's apartment building, which is where he occasionally stops to talk with other fans -- but mostly he just wanders around while his voice-over narration rambles on about Holden Caulfield blah blah and John Lennon yadda yadda. It's drier than burnt toast and about as tasty. Popping up randomly (and to no discernible effect, really) in front of the apartment building are Jude (Lindsay Lohan) and Paul (Judah Friedlander), but aside from a few brief volleys of vapid chit-chat with the eventual murderer, they sure don't do a whole heckuva lot. (For the record, Friedlander delivers the only interesting line in the whole movie while Lohan wisely underplays her skimpily-written role.)

On the whole Chapter 27 feels like thirty pages of script in a 90-minute frame, and a vanity project for an actor willing to go the extra distance even if the screenplay doesn't really warrant all the effort. I was hoping to gain some insight as to who Mark Chapman actually was, and why he committed such a horrible crime; I walked out of Chapter 27 still wondering who the guy was -- and why the hell he liked Catcher in the Rye so damn much

"Chapter 27" peers into the mind of a real-life, insane killer and finds almost nothing of interest. In order to play John Lennon's assassin Mark David Chapman, actor Jared Leto gained some 70 pounds. Seemingly following his lead, the pic itself is heavy, lethargic, and exasperating. Whether this is due to the producer-star or due to debuting writer-director Jarrett Schaefer -- or both -- this dramatization of Chapman's days in New York City leading up to the shooting yields little insight or entertainment value. Despite the presence of Lindsay Lohan (in a thankless support role), theatrical success looks about as likely as a 21st-century Beatles reunion.

Flying in from his Hawaii home, the creepy, awkward Chapman installs himself in a YMCA, then a Sheraton, spending most of his time hanging out in front of the fabled Dakota building hoping to get an autograph from resident Lennon. But since he's brought a handgun, he presumably has a darker agenda from the start.

His repetitive verbal and voiceover ramblings show his obsessions with the Beatles and "Catcher in the Rye." He seems to think he's Holden Caulfield, sworn to avenge himself on all the "phonies" of the world, including ex-Beatle Lennon.

But since there's no background given in screenplay (a brief conversation with his unseen wife back home is the only clue to his prior life), protag's motivations are left blank.

Instead, pic gives a whopping dose of Leto with a black dye-job, pasty skin, glasses and double chin, whisper-talking in a rather actorish way, finding many excuses to doff his shirt so aud can appreciate his "Raging Bull"-style sacrifice for art. Chapman emerges more boring and irksome than scary.

Chapman meets Jude (Lohan), a local who also spends time hovering outside the Dakota, hoping for a glimpse of or word with her idol. As played in Lohan's usual likeable, naturalistic style, it strains credibility that this normal young woman would spend even a minute befriending such an obvious weirdo.

Though preem screening clocked in 16 minutes shorter than run-time given in Sundance program, "Chapter 27" still feels low on incident and high in tedium, with ideas beginning to repeat themselves halfway through. On rare occasions when something does happen -- notably when Chapman hires a prostitute -- it's a terribly obvious stab at pathos or menace.

Brief news clips reporting Lennon's death and the widespread public mourning provide some respite from pic's unrewardingly narrow focus.

While this sort of thing has certainly been done well before --"Taxi Driver" being the definitive example -- Leto and Schaefer haven't found a way of making their subject's mental illness compelling.

Feature is pro but uninspired in all departments, with Anthony Marinelli's competent but off-mark orchestral score just one more way in which "Chapter" fails to lend a seemingly sure-shot story any distinctive personality or drive.

A Little Bit More Regarding The Dismal Reception For Chapter 27

I have just read Howard's latest post today regarding the dismal reception that the film Chapter 27 received at it's Sundance premiere.Thanks Howard for your words of encouragement on this board.They are truly appreciated and they are also a boost of confidence and courage that many of those in the world today lack.Thanks again Howard.

I have a little bit more to share regarding the dismal reception that this worthless excuse of a movie has received.Three days ago,somebody posted a message on the IMDB inquiring on when a trailer is supposed to be coming out.The film premiered at Sundance about three days ago and this person was wondering if there is going to be a trailer for this film.Well,as we can all see by the dismal negative reception that this inauspicious debut by Jarrett P. Schaffer has received,it looks like that there will possibly be NO trailer for this film.I even expressed my thoughts regarding this on the subject on IMDB.Below is where you can read it:

"Apparently, it looks like that there might not be a trailer for the film judging by the negative reviews the film received at it's Sundance premeire. Since this film has not found a distributor as of yet and looks like it might not find one, it looks like that there will be NO trailers for this waste of a movie that was a waste of time, talent, film & money. It's sad but as Frank Sinatra once sang "That's Life!" "

Apparently with this dismal and negative reception that this film has received,it looks like that we will not see Chapter 27 among the films listed to be shown at any movie theatre anywhere in the USA. The only thing I can say about this is an often quoted phrase that is used whenever somebody does not get what they are expecting from all their wasteful hard work on something.

A little note to Jarrett P. Schaeffer,if he ever reads this,regarding this really sad turn of events at the Sundance film festival that his film received:

"BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME,BOY!!!!"

That is all I can say to Mr. Schaffer.

But for the world around us,there is a double edged sword here. For the people who expected this film to go anywhere after Sundance, "We're Sorry! But You Can't Win Them All,LOSERS!" But for those of us who worked hard to get the message across and our victory regarding this boycott drawing near as we all continue to hope for the best through our continuous hard work,all I can say is,in the immortal words of Jackie Gleason, "How Sweet It Is!!"

Let's continue to work hard at this and fight. The more we do. The more positive results can be accomplished. It won't be long when we can say "Let The Celebrations Begin!"

Strange name coincidence in John Lennon murder film

In Chapter 27, Jared Leto portrays John Lennon's murderer Mark David Chapman in a story about his mental breakdown in the days preceding the 1980 slaying.

In what the filmmakers acknowledge was a spooky coincidence, the actor chosen to play Lennon in two brief but climactic scenes was a Los Angeles performer named Mark Lindsay Chapman. There is no relation.

Writer-director Jarrett Schaefer says, "When I first heard an actor by that name gave us a tape, I thought it was a joke." He watched the tape for the first time without noticing, and was impressed by the performer. Then he rewound the footage and caught the name.

He decided to hire him anyway. "It's not the easiest thing to be like, the actor I want to play John Lennon is named Mark Lindsay Chapman – but there it was," he said.

He says the actor got the role because he portrayed the edgier side of Lennon, without making the former Beatle seem too saint-like.

"There are a lot of John Lennon look-alikes out there, and I looked at a bunch of them. But a feel-alike is what I wanted," Schaefer said. "Most of the people who make their living looking like John and playing his music portray him in a way where he's six-inches above the ground, as a legend. I was more interested in portraying his cynical one-liners, he was famous for having a chip on his shoulder and saying exactly what he means."

The filmmaker says he wrote to the Lennon family to make them aware of the film, rather than risk them learning from a newspaper. Schaefer says they did not contact him back.

Chapter 27 was named after a non-existent final part of the novel The Catcher in the Rye, which the killer obsessed over. Both actor and director say it was designed to explore the killer, not celebrate him.

Lindsay Lohan co-stars in the movie as a Lennon fan who befriended the murderer. The actress cancelled plans to attend Sundance after entering rehab last week to fight unspecified addictions. Schaefer did not mention her in the post-screening crew acknowledgments.

"Chapter 27," by contrast, wastes the talents of Jared Leto on a story that simply didn't need telling : the murder of John Lennon as told from the point of view of killer Mark David Chapman. The actor gained more than 65 pounds for the role and convincingly transforms himself into a bloated, pale sociopath whose obsessions include "The Catcher in the Rye" and the Bible in addition to the ex-Beatle. Lindsay Lohan is good as a fellow Beatlemaniac, too, but writer-director Jarrett Schaefer never convincingly explains the demons that drove Chapman. The result is an unpleasant act of cinematic rubbernecking that celebrates a deserved nonentity.

The festival prizes won't be handed out until tonight, but by Thursday evening, as "Chapter 27" was having its premier e screening in the Eccles Theatre, there was already a sense that this year's Sundance was over. There is not much that could be said for this awful misfire of a film. The sadly untalented Leto is thrust upon the screen, and at the viewers, in a performance that is so bad it isn't even worth laughing at. It's as if Leto was attempting to play Travis Bickle via Forrest Gump. The Direction was also flawed, and relayed too much on Scorsese's Classic Taxi Driver, but I give him credit for addressing the stoic audience at the Sundance Premiere during the post screening Q&A. I hope he has learned from the mistakes on this picture, and is able to deliver something more impressive his next time around. I'm trying to be generous. Lindsey Lohan was the one shining light in an otherwise unwatchable film.

Just caught the world premiere at Sundance tonight. At the Question and Answer with the director and lead actor, the audience asked two categories of questions. Either, "what drove you to make this movie" and "what did you learn about Chapman that is not already known" on one hand or "how many pounds did Jared Lito gain/lose to play the part" on the other. The actor Jared had more to say about the hardship of the physical aspects of this role than the director Jared had to say about the "why" of the movie other than some vague attempt to humanize Mark David Chapman and to show that his motivation apparently came from his sick adherence to the words of John Lennon and Salinger's Catcher In The Rye.

But such is already common knowledge gleaned from any standard article written about Chapman's murder of Lennon along with his last few days up until the shooting. The director admitted to no contact from the Lennon family or even with Chapman himself--why humanize someone you don't even care to meet? So, the audience wondered, what was the point? No wonder the most interesting thing to the audience the film was Jared the actor's weight commitment to the role.

Excellent acting throughout, especially Ms. Lohan's work, and solid technical film-making. But nothing interesting, thoughtful, insightful, exposing or illuminating to see.

A film about a madman causing pain and grief to a someone and their family, or in this case to millions worldwide, that sheds light as to how such person got to such a state is one thing, but one that that does nothing but execute a common knowledge play-by-play of the killer's last few days, a "Passion of the Chapman" if you will--and even that gives this film too much credit--does not seem to have a reason except possibly dull sensationalism. I say dull because, if not, wouldn't such a film have been made over twenty years ago?

A well done, well acted wasteful drag of a movie.

Sundance Report: Mark David Chapman Pic Doesn't Endear Filmmaker to Beatle-Loving Throngs

When filmmaker Jarrett "no morals, money hungry, shit head" Schaefer took the stage at Park City's Prospector Theater this morning for a question-and-answer session after a screening of his debut film, Chapter 27, a glimpse into the deranged mind of MDC (DIRTBAG KILLER!!) — played by a plumped-up Jared Leto — during his days in New York prior to the murder of John Lennon, there was an obvious thing to ask. Where were you when John Lennon was shot? "I was 1," he said. "My dad said I was watching football." The audience laughed. It was the first laughter heard in the last 90 minutes.
Chapter 27 is a serious and terrifying film. But Lennon fans have been skeptical of Schaefer's motives. Is he trying to show MDC in a sympathetic light? Does he think Lennon's killer should finally be paroled? "Jarrett received some hostile questions at last night's screening," said Anthony Marinelli, the film's composer, just outside the auditorium doors. "They want to know what Yoko Ono thinks. I think this screening was warmer. This guy is a disgrace, guaranteed he will never have a career in the movie business." Schaefer gets the Yoko question a lot. "I'm not going into that," he said, sitting in a snack bar later. Will some people always criticize him for showing Chapman as something other than entirely evil? Schaefer gave the shortest response of the festival. "Yes."

I have another latest bit about Chapter 27 from MTV.com. It is courtesy of Josh Horowitz who is at the moment at Sundance and this is another of the latest regarding that film. Of course,it's really not a full review. It's just a few words by Mr. Horowitz and a bit about the audience reaction.Below is where you can find it:

"It's a Sundance miracle.I have found the theatre(with some help from a gas station attendant) showing "Chapter 27",and what's more,I haven't even missed a frame of it. This is the very first screening of "Chapter 27", a much hyped about John Lennon's assassin NHJKGBTYRZUI (Jared Leto) in the days leading up to the Beatle's murder. Lindsay Lohan in a supporting role does not hurt the curiosity factor. After seeing a couple of movies at Sundance you learn the protocol awfully quick. The credits come up as the film concludes and the audience pays their respects, often with raucous applause. This is not a review of "Chapter 27", so I'll out my many thoughts on the flick, but suffice it to say, ''only a FEW people applauded at the end and I wasn't one of them.'' This can't be the last flick I see here. It can't end like this."

There you go. Yet another bit about this poor excuse of a film that is not even getting any favorable reviews at the festival. It's a wonder that Mr. Schaeffer even made the film in the first place and it's also another wonder why those behind the scenes at the Sundance Film Festival gave this film and it's maker the green light to premiere at the festival in the first place when we are seeing that NOBODY is interested in this film or why Lennon's murderer even murdered Lennon in the first place.

Chapter 27's days are numbered as we speak. It should not be long when the festival is over and this film does not get any takers in the distribution arena, which we all hope on this board does not happen at all. If it does not have any takers that would release it to theatres, we can declare victory and let the celebrations begin. If it does, which, again, we hope does not happen, we can hope that this movie BOMBS and disappears soonafter it reaches theatres. We can still win it either way.

Let's hope for the best. It looks like we're winning, so far. Let's keep it up.

SEAN LENNON and LINDSAY LOHAN's friendship is at risk after the musician's decision to go public with his feelings about her "tacky" new film.
The son of late BEATLE JOHN LENNON hates the idea of Lohan's new movie CHAPTER 27, in which she plays a friend of his father's killer MARK DAVID CHAPMAN, played by JARED LETO.
In one scene the young Sean meets Chapman in Central Park, New York - less than a mile from where the deranged fan shot his father dead outside the Dakota Building.
And Lennon is far from impressed with the film's premise, stating, "It's a tacky thing to make a film about.
"Lindsay was my friend, so I don't want to hurt her feelings... I think she felt that she understood but she'd already agreed to do it." And speaking to US TV news show THE INSIDER before checking into rehab, Lohan revealed she knew all about her friend's distaste for Chapter 27.
She said, "He's my friend but he's not supporting what went on (on the set).
We respect each other... and I don't support what happened to John Lennon."

What's even more ironic is that the man who took the life of John Lennon actually had the nerve to pat Sean Lennon on the head when his nanny took him for a walk. Little did Sean Lennon, who was 5 years of age at the time, realize that this same man would murder his father in cold blood hours later. Pretty scary, huh?

Yet another winning review for Chapter 27 and Peace Arch Entertainment:

"Chapter 27" relies on the concept that following an insane person around for three days will provide you with great insight into his character. But if all the character in question does is make "Catcher in the Rye" references and speak in an annoying whisper that's supposed to be sinister, it doesn't really offer any insight into why he killed John Lennon.
Jared Leto stars as Mark Chapman, who shot John Lennon outside the Dakota apartment building on Dec. 8, 1980. With the weight gain, makeup and glasses, Leto does actually look quite a bit like Chapman, but that means little in terms of the actual performance, which is limited to the script's depth and scope.

As Leto's voiceover—a southern-tinged, raspy whisper that blathers nonstop throughout the film—tells us, "Chapter 27" isn't about Chapman's childhood or any of that, just three days 'round about Christmas when something happened to him. The time frame is clearly a reference to the J.D. Sallinger (26-chapter) novel that writer/director J.P. Schaefer mirrors his film after in the same way that Chapman modeled his personality. But the film lacks the thrust and scope of "Catcher in the Rye." Chapman finds New York City to be dirty and sin-filled, moves to a new hotel, stands outside Dakota again, eats some food, goes to the Dakota again, etc.

From what I can tell, the film is generally accurate regarding the events of Dec. 8. But I got as much out of it as I did by looking up Chapman on Wikipedia. Chapman's earlier encounters on the day of the shooting, first with young Sean Lennon and his nanny, later with John himself, are there simply because they're expected to be. Oh, and he liked "The Wizard of Oz."

Lindsay Lohan plays a Lennon obsessive who befriends Chapman while loitering outside the Dakota. She elects to spend much more time with him than any reasonable person would. It's not fun to listen to some guy with a poor grasp on "The Catcher in the Rye" imitate Holden Caulfield and talk about his dislike of phonies all day, and a good-looking woman-about-town would have no need to put up with it.

The film suggests that if any of the people who spend hours letting Chapman annoy them endlessly would have kept letting him annoy them, the murder might not have been committed. Even for an obsessive fan, the guy is a bad conversationalist, unpredictable and rude. That anyone would allow this new guy into their lives is a complete stretch. And if there's a reason to make a film about him, "Chapter 27" doesn't reveal it.

"Hounddog," the simply awful movie in which 12-year-old Dakota Fanning’s character is raped, has no buyers.

"No one wants it after the terrible reviews," one distributor told me, just as we were sitting down to see another disaster, J.P. Schaefer’s "Chapter 27."

Indeed, the people associated with The Weinstein Company, IFC Films and First Look were among those who instantly agreed that they had no interest in "Hounddog."

At this rate, this exercise in bad taste may wind up being a DVD collector’s item. Same thing for "Chapter 27," from which many fled before it ended in the two audiences that have seen it.

Meanwhile, the producers of "Hounddog" trotted out 12-year-old Fanning yesterday to defend the film in places like USA Today and at another press conference. It’s come to that, apparently. The people who should be answering questions, however, are Fanning’s parents, and the parents of the other children in the film.
Sounds like the beginning of the END for Jared Leto and Lindsey Lohan, should have thought about something besides money, when you decided to do Chapter 27..HAHAHAHAH

Lennon Murder a Bore in New Film

It’s not enough that John Lennon was assassinated in 1980 by MDC. Now filmmaker — I use the word advisedly — J.P. Schaefer has managed to kill him again. He’s also made a boring, unreleasable movie that no one will ever see, except a few members of the press.

“Chapter 27” is probably more notable — as I noted a few months ago — for its wholesale lifting of passages from J.D. Salinger’s classic novel “The Catcher in the Rye.” I can’t believe Salinger’s lawyers aren’t already exploring ways to penalize the people behind this piece of drivel for stealing sections of the writer’s work.

The movie was screened on Tuesday night for the first time. But I’m told it’s been rejected by other film festivals before finally gaining berth here at Sundance.

It doesn’t really matter. Most of the audience struggled to remain awake during the film’s lethargic 90 minutes.

Not much happens. Chapman is played pasty (PERFECT DESCRIPTION) by actor Jared Leto — who looks like a spent a month eating hero sandwiches and downing milkshakes.

He’s adopted a Southern accent for the role, and we get to hear it a lot, since almost all of the movie is either Chapman talking to himself or at others in a monotone.

There’s no explanation for Chapman’s feelings about Lennon other than he thinks he’s a “phony” for having several homes.

Chapman just goes on and on about Salinger’s signature hero, Holden Caulfield, to the point of inanity.

If Chapman thought anything else about Lennon, we just aren’t privy to it. Schaefer gets an "F" for not doing any research or homework.

There are a couple of other actors in "Chapter 27" -- the title refers to what would have been one more chapter in the novel, although this is not made clear.

Lindsay Lohan is thoroughly wasted in a bit part as a Beatle fan who hangs around the Dakota building in New York City, where Lennon lived, and is friendly with Sean Lennon’s nanny.

Judah Friedlander has the thankless part of a paparazzo whom Schaefer imagined chatted up Chapman in the hours right before he shot Lennon dead.

And the shooting is right there in the movie, if you’re wondering. Luckily, we only get to hear it, and Yoko Ono’s screams. Otherwise, Lennon is seen for a microsecond. And he’s played by the unfortunately named Mark Lindsay Chapman, the same actor who played Lennon in a TV movie years ago. Apparently once was not enough for this man.

Schaefer, whoever he is, has not made himself a welcome introduction to the indie film world. Not only is "Chapter 27" exploitative, it’s also dull, unimaginative, repetitive and without any redeeming cinematic qualities.

Leto, who started out with a promising career (“Requiem for a Dream,” “Prefontaine”) basically plays Chapman as a blob in tinted sunglasses. It’s the most inert performance in movies since Kevin Spacey wrecked “The Shipping News.”

As for Lohan, she’s better off in rehab than wasting her talents on this junk.

n December 8, 1980, Mark David Chapman shot John Lennon dead outside the Dakota Hotel. Not much is known about Lennon's assailant, but Chapter 27, a new movie by Jarrett Schaefer starring Jaret Leto as Chapman, tries its best to get into the killer's head. A big deal had been made about the amount of weight the normally rail-thin Leto put-on to play the part, following in the method acting footsteps of De Niro's Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull, but little else is known about the film, which is why many journalists and critics jumped on the early screening tonight at the Holiday Village. (The movie premieres at the festival on Thursday night at the Eccles.)

Those with high expectations for Chapter 27 may be slightly disappointed by the deliberately slow and subdued tone of the film, but also by how little of Chapman's life leading up to the shooting is covered. As the camera is kept trained on Leto's Chapman for the entirety of the film, it only really deals with the few days after his arrival in New York City leading up to the shooting. It's quite jarring the first time you see Leto, who is almost unrecognizable with his added weight and Roy Orbison glasses. Just to make sure no one thinks that this look was done with make-up or camera trickery, Schaefer includes many scenes of Chapman shirtless to Leto's new full-figured physique is prominently on display.

A few other characters show up, mainly as Chapman waits impatiently outside the Dakota Hotel for his hero to come out, the most prominent one being Lindsay Lohan as fellow Beatles fan Jude Stein, who makes friends with Chapman but gets scared off by his unstable demeanor. He also has a few encounters with Paul Goresh, a photographer played by Judah Friedlander who hopes to get pictures of Lennon to sell.

Even if you've never heard of Chapman (i.e. you're under the age of 16), it's obvious that he's not quite right, as the film is narrated mostly from the voices in his head as they make suggestions what he should do. His daily stalking of his idol seems innocent at first, merely wanting a copy of "Double Fantasy" autographed, but there's more at work inside this deranged man's head, as seen by his equal obsession with Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye."

Sadly, we really don't know what it is that drove him to kill Lennon--maybe he was hoping that the signed record he got would be more of a collector's item with Lennon dead?--and Chapter 27 doesn't make too much of an effort to try to enlighten us. It's commendable how Schaeffer took the well-documented facts leading up to the shooting and created this portrait, though the way things are shown almost verbatim may also be one of the fim's biggest faults. For instance, seeing Chapman encounter Sean Lennon and his nanny in Central Park mere hours before shooting Sean's father borders on the surreal, yet it's known to have happened.

The actual shooting takes place in a matter of seconds and after a bit of news footage and man-on-the-street interviews, the movie is over, never really answering the questions that many might have about what drove Chapman to this action.

Chapter 27 is worth seeing for Leto's performance (NOT) and the remarkable transformation that he went through to become Chapman (WOW...He ate food...what a star), but the film isn't that strong otherwise, and its slow, meandering pace tends to be its undoing.

This is a bit off of the Chapter 27 topic, but I felt it was necessary to help expose Peace Arch Entertainment. They are the company responsible for Chapter 27, this is a publicly traded company (PAE) which will eventually come under investigation by the SEC for spewing pure bullshit to its shareholders in hopes of one day "hitting it big", they will attempt this by putting out films with no moral or scrupples. These are the type of guys who would show moms execution on television for ratings. Case in point Chapter 27. When you read the article below, consider how much speculation and quite frankly - BULLSHIT, Peace Arch is spewing to potential investors. Would you invest your money with these people? Paying for analyst coverage and putting out films like Chapter 27?

January 23, 2007 -- JARED Leto was in a foul mood at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Saturday night. Leto, who was promoting "Chapter 27" (in which he plays John Lennon's assassin) picked fights with photographers and clubgoers in the VIP section of Tao at Harry O's. When a photographer from WireImage attempted to snap Leto's picture, the eyeliner- clad cad shouted, "No! No more, bro!" Leto walked out - but not before a "big guy" yanked at his long tresses. Leto "whipped off his hat with earflaps on and stepped up to the guy," said a spy. "They were yelling at each other." But no punches were thrown. And though Leto left, he came back a couple hours later to look for the guy. (Leto's rep didn't return calls.) Elsewhere: Sienna Miller kept the rumor mill churning by showing up at Tao with her new best friend Sean Combs one night and hitting the Heineken Lounge with Josh Hartnett the next. With the movie Chapter 27 now premiering at Sundance,I have been seeing that we in the USA are actually obsessed with murderers.In the past 50 years,we are seeing in more ways than one,that there are quite a few movies about murderers being made and released into theatres and even on TV of all kinds be it network or cable.It seems that Hollywood and independent film companies are making these movies to whet the appetite of the people in this country.With Jarrett Schaeffer making Chapter 27,he is simply trying to make money off of this obsession and try to become rich of the misery of fans,admirers and loved ones of one of the greatest men who ever lived,John Lennon.

Case in point;Has anyone here ever seen the movie by Oliver Stone entitled Natural Born Killers?Is anyone here even aware of it?It doesn't matter which version,be it the R rated version or the Unrated version.If anyone here has,then you know what I am saying here.

Oliver Stone made this movie with a message.The message is that the people,mostly the media and certain cult like individuals,are indeed obsessed with murderers.Stone made his point really clear when he took the daring move to make this movie and bring this age old truth to our eyes and ears.In that movie,Mick and Mallory Knox were notorious serial murderers who went on seemingly unending killing spree and were glamorized in the media and by people.One person actually held up a sign honoring them saying "Murder Me,Mickey!!" The media even asked Mickey "What Do You Have To Say To Your Fans?" Mickey answered "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet!" and they achieve what they are hoping for.They have fame and celebrity styled notoriety.All the while,nobody and I mean NOBODY even considers the families who lost their loved ones all because of Mickey And Mallory Knox killing them.One of the taglines for this film was: "In The Media Circus of Life,They Were The Main Attraction!" On the poster itself it said as follows: "Director Oliver Stone Brings You A Bold New Look At A Country Seduced By Fame,Obsessed With Crime and Consumed By The Media!"

That poster was right on the money.Stone only made this movie as a statement about the USA's obsession with people who really do not deserve to be in the limelight.Killers truly do not deserve any fame or celebrity styled notoriety.Though the film's story is fictional,Stone claimed that the film was "Inspired By Actual Events" from the past and the present.Stone made this film as a way of pointing out the shortcomings of this country and the people who make stars out of monsters such as the characters in that film and that this country has always had an obsession with these types that is as old as time itself.Plus,a certain amount of folklore is always made around these types.It seems that North American's have a murder fetish that has now gone overboard with no end in sight.Yes the movie was controversial.Yes the movie was overly graphically violent.Yes the movie was shocking.But the shocking thing is that murderers are always getting everything that they do not deserve and are also smiling all the way to the bank(so to speak).Examples are Charles Manson,Ted Bundy,Richard Ramirez, John E.List,Dennis Rader(BTK),Joe Hunt and Jeffrey Dahmer.Many movies and documentaries have been made about them and they are well known on the internet with many articles about them.

This hopefully proves my point.

Jarrett Schaeffer is only making Chapter 27 as a gamble.He's gambling with the notion of the USA's obsession with murderers and is actually hoping to make a lot of money off of this venture regarding this obsession.Not only that,there is also a musical play called Asassins and many well known murderers are showcased in this,including the man who murdered John Lennon who shall remain nameless.The worst thing about Chapter 27 is that Mr Schaeffer claims to be a fan of both The Beatles and John Lennon.I feel that if he truly were a fan of them,he would not have made this worthless excuse of a film to give THAT MAN notoriety that he truly does not deserve.Besides,who really wants to know what was going on in Lennon's murderers mind anyway?Who the heck really cares?Certainly not me,that's who.

The only thing that we can hope is that this move by Mr.Schaeffer BOMBS and that he rolls snake eyes with his gamble and not make anything off of this disgusting commercial venture.

Again,I hope that this proves my point.

This is a blurb on Chapter 27 from VH1's website, its unfortunate that VH1 and Viacom are paying any attention at all to this piece of crap, but it beats giving Peace Arch a distribution deal for Chapter 27. Report: Actress Lindsay Lohan checks into rehab (gotta love it..the chapter 27 curse continues)


HOLLYWOOD - Actress Lindsay Lohan, whose hard-partying ways have become a mainstay of the supermarket tabloids, has reportedly checked herself into rehab.

According to Internet and wire reports, the actress issued a statement through her representative, Leslie Sloane Zelnik: "I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health. I appreciate your well wishes and ask that you please respect my privacy at this time." Additional details were not immediately unavailable.

Lohan, 20, has been the subject of much open speculation about whether her drinking and partying had crossed a line. Fueling such speculation has been repeated hospital visits, even though representatives insisted they were nothing serious, and severe weight fluctuations.

Most recently, she checked into a hospital and told the media it was because she needed to have her appendix removed.

Late last year, Lohan's mother, Dina, told the media that her daughter had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. While some of Lohan's bar-hopping had been chalked up to life as a rich-and-famous teenager, concern about Lohan ratcheted up last summer when a producer on the set of one of Lohan's new movies, "Georgia Rule," criticized her for partying herself sick and then hiding behind reports of illnesses and exhaustion. This is great...can't make this stuff up

In a letter, Morgan Creek chief James G. Robinson threatened to hold her financially responsible for absences and late arrivals that he said had cost the production hundreds of thousands of dollars in delays. The letter seemed to have done its job. Shortly thereafter, Lohan was reportedly on time and in great form. Enjoy this no show at sundance stock holders and investors in PAE....whhaaaaaaaaa

Lohan starred in 1998's "The Parent Trap," and it soon became apparent that she was here to stay. "Freaky Friday" (2003) and "Mean Girls" (2004) helped make her an even bigger star among tweens and young women. Recent movies, however, have not been as successful, such as 2006's "Just My Luck." According to IMDB.com, she has no fewer than seven movies in the pipeline, including this year's "Georgia Rule." It's unclear how her rehab stint may affect production.

More About Jarrett Shaeffer.The Man Responsible for Chapter 27 & Where He Came From & It's Importance In Beatles History.

I learned something about Jarrett Shaeffer that really surprised me. I figured that I would share it with all of you.

Jarrett Shaeffer is from Landstuhl,Germany. He graduated from the film writing program at USC is 2001.

I only bring this up because I am part German in my own right. My mother hails from the city of Berlin. She emigrated to the USA after she married my father in 1956.

I am also a tad bit ashamed that this guy came from that country. I am part German myself and this guy hails from that country.

Germany also holds some importance for The Beatles. It was in the racy city of Hamburg in the early 1960's where the Fab Four learned how to be REAL professionals and it is also where they did their first professional recordings. They backed up Tony Sheridan in a German recording studio and those sessions produced the legendary My Bonnie record and the later Top 20 hit Ain't She Sweet,which John sang lead on. The Beatles performed at the German night club called Kaiserkeller,which was near the Reeperbahn district before moving on to a club called The Top 10,which was where they met Sheridan and the rest was history.The Fab Four would also perform at another place called The Star Club where they made their first live recordings and where future permanent drummer Ringo Starr(real name Richard Starkey) would sit in for Pete Best when those recordings were made. They would later be released on record many times on many different reissue labels starting in 1977 when Lingasong Records first released them.

The early years of the Fabs are further illustrated in the movie Backbeat that starred Ian Hart giving the performance of his career as John Lennon and Stephen Dorff as Stuart Sutcliffe. The movie is about those years when they did get their first professional experiences in Hamburg even though it does focus mainly on the friendship between John & Stu. It is still a very good movie and one I whole heartedly recommend for any Beatles or Lennon fans out there. It will be one of those films that I will watch during the week of the Sundance Film Festival alongside other Beatles films that I have to honor John Lennon.

Again, The man who is making this film hails from that country and it's hard to believe that the fans in Germany are not crying FOUL at this. I am crying FOUL at the moment because I am not only part German but I am a Beatles and Lennon fan and that country was what helped them in their quest for stardom.

Taking on the true story of a hero to millions is pressure enough for a first-time director. Getting inside the head of the man who killed him is a whole other story. But that's the challenge Jarrett Schafer took on with his first feature, "Chapter 27," a story of the days leading up to the 1980 assassination of John Lennon, told from the perspective of his killer, Mark David Chapman.
Born on an Air Force base in Germany but raised in the U.S., Schaefer studied filmic writing at USC. After graduating, he worked as an editor at Fade In magazine and as a videostore clerk while writing scripts and poetry in his spare time.

Like Chapman, Schaefer is an ardent fan of both the Beatles and J.D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye," and says he began the script to try to understand "how someone could be inspired to kill anyone as a result of being exposed to this kind of beautiful art. It really bothered me, because Lennon and Salinger have always made me feel so much better, and so much less alone."

The script took Schaefer four years to write, but once it was finished, the film came together quickly. With the help of producers Alexandra Milchan and Bob Salerno, Schaefer cast Jared Leto as Chapman and Lindsay Lohan as Jude, a fellow Lennon fanatic who befriends Chapman.

Says Salerno, "Writing the script and researching the events extensively gave Jarrett a deeper understanding of the material, and a comfort as a first time director to take more risks in the way he wanted to shoot this story."

Pic was shot on location in New York last year. "I don't have much to compare it to, but the challenges were daunting," says Schaefer, who directed several sequences outside the Dakota, the site of Lennon's assassination. "I had to go into a place that was very sensitive to our story, with trucks, a crew, and a limited amount of time. It wasn't easy."

"It was important to Jarrett that we didn't glorify this event," says Salerno. "He didn't want to shoot any of the scenes with John Lennon at the Dakota out of respect for the residents that were there at the time John was killed, so all of that footage was shot separately at another location that we were able keep closed and controlled."

Schaefer is currently developing several new feature ideas. His USC thesis script, "The Hidden Alice," will be directed by helmer Bronwen Hughes ("Stander").

"Jarrett is someone that I am sure will be most content to take on difficult subject matter in the future and find his own original way in," adds Salerno.

The run down on Chapter 27

At the moment,I am feeling hopeful.I am getting the feeling that I am accomplishing something and that makes me feel the way I do.

The run down currently on the movie Chapter 27 is that it got a private screening at AFM recently in front of a select audience.The movie was not picked up by any distributor who was there and even a critic,who asked for anonymity expressed his thoughts regarding the film and they are as follows:

"This movie is a total waste of time and a very unnecessary film.It's hard to believe that first time film maker Jarett Schaeffer tries to take the story of a man who murdered his idol and make it into an acceptable art form. Leto's performance as the murderer is just plain boring and without substance.Besides,who really cares about what was going on in the mind of the murderer as to what possessed or motivated him to kill a much loved rock star and a man who loved and prayed for world unity.Peace Arch Entertainment was rolling snake eyes when they chose to bankroll this worthless excuse for a movie and classify it as entertainment.They could have saved themselves a lot of stress,headaches and controversy by passing on this opportunity."

Not only that,the casting of both Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan in the film was an effort to bring all the young people of today to the theatres. Leto also was miscast in the way of being "Too Old" for the age of the murderer who shall remain nameless as a favor to not only Beatles and Lennon fans but on the advice of Lennon's widow Yoko Ono and former bandmate and collaborator Paul McCartney.The man who took the life of Lennon was actually 25 years of age and Leto,who portrayed him in the film,is 35.I also managed to check the festival website containing a summary of the movie and it has Leto as that monster proudly aiming a gun and smiling.That,in itself,is TOTAL BLASPHEMY.Yes it is.My anger for that man knows no bounds until the day he dies.On that day,I can breathe a sigh of relief and say to myself "John Lennon Can Finally Rest In Peace.His Murderer Is Now Dead."

As of now,it looks like we're winning.No distributor has even picked this up.It has already been passed by most of them including Fox Searchlight Pictures and it's parent company 20th Century Fox and others.There is a rumor going about that the Weinstein's are interested but this has not been confirmed or denied.I am hoping that this is just a rumor and that they are not interested.It would make me sad if they did decide to pick it up.Again,so far,this film has no takers in the distribution areas and we can only hope that it stays that way.If it does get picked up,the only thing we can hope for is that the movies BOMBS in theatres.We can still win it either way.

Let's keep it up.If it does not get picked up or if it BOMBS,let the celebrations begin.I will be with all the fans of both the Beatles and John Lennon in spirit.

An open letter to the board of Peace Arch Entertainment:

My original goal for this letter was to scrutinize Peace Arch Entertainment's remarks point by point. Unfortunately, Peace Arch Entertainment's focus wanders so wildly that it never actually finishes any of its points. I think you will notice this in the ensuing discussion. Let us note first of all that many people think of Peace Arch Entertainment's antihumanist, pea-brained plaints as a joke, as something only half-serious. In fact, they're deadly serious. They're the tool by which self-indulgent carousers will make our lives miserable in a lustrum or two. A second all-too-serious item is that Peace Arch Entertainment says that it can override nature. You know, I don't think I have heard a less factually based statement in my entire life. Still, we shouldn't jump to conclusions, even though it is a known fact that I have one itsy-bitsy problem with Peace Arch Entertainment's epigrams. Videlicet, they burn our fair cities to the ground. And that's saying nothing about how if it believes that obscurity, evasiveness, incomprehensibility, indirectness, and ambiguity are marks of depth and brilliance, then it's obvious why it thinks that individual worth is defined by race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin.

I won't mince my words: In order to convince us that anyone who dares to point out that the emperor has no clothes on can expect to suffer hair loss and tooth decay as a result, Peace Arch Entertainment often turns to the old propagandist trick of comparing results brought about by entirely dissimilar causes. How dare Peace Arch Entertainment criticize my values when its are so obviously hopeless?

I happen to believe that Peace Arch Entertainment's objectives are evil. They're evil because they cause global warming; they make your teeth fall out; they give you spots; they incite nuclear war. And, as if that weren't enough, Peace Arch Entertainment's reason is not true reason. It does not seek the truth, but only headlong answers, vainglorious resolutions to conflicts. If Peace Arch Entertainment would abandon its name-calling and false dichotomies it would be much easier for me to address the real issues faced by mankind. Peace Arch Entertainment's sophistries were never about tolerance and equality. That was just window dressing for the "innocents". Rather, the time is always right to do what is right. That's why we must surely advocate social change through dialogue, passive resistance, and nonviolence. The first step in that process is to realize that it wants nothing less than to defy the law of the land, hence its repeated, almost hypnotic, insistence on the importance of its dastardly, neurotic declamations.

Our national media is controlled by wretched cutthroats. That's why you probably haven't heard that Peace Arch Entertainment's editorials represent the most sleazy form of moral turpitude conceivable. Get that straight, please. Any other thinking is blame-shoving or responsibility-dodging. Furthermore, my general thesis is that purists may object to my failure to present specific examples of Peace Arch Entertainment's coldhearted ventures. Fortunately, I do have an explanation for this omission. The explanation demands an understanding of how Peace Arch Entertainment's a pretty good liar most of the time. However, it tells so many lies, it's bound to trip itself up someday. I'll talk a lot more about that later, but first let me finish my general thesis: If I wanted to brainwash and manipulate a large segment of the population, I would convince them that Peace Arch Entertainment's vices are the only true virtues. In fact, that's exactly what Peace Arch Entertainment does as part of its quest to pilfer the national treasure. We've all heard Peace Arch Entertainment yammer and whine about how it's being scapegoated again, the poor dear. Make no mistake about it, if you think that Peace Arch Entertainment has a duty to conceal the facts and lie to the rest of us, under oath if necessary, perjuring itself to help disseminate the True Faith of opportunism, then you're suffering from very serious nearsightedness. You're focusing too much on what Peace Arch Entertainment wants you to see and failing to observe many other things of much greater importance, such as that it contends that its campaigns are all sweetness and light. Excuse me, but where exactly did this little factoid come from? Fogyism doesn't work. So why does Peace Arch Entertainment cling to it? There aren't enough hours in the day to fully answer that question, but consider this: If Peace Arch Entertainment can give us all a succinct and infallible argument proving that the rest of us are an inferior group of people, fit only to be enslaved, beaten, and butchered at the whim of our betters, I will personally deliver its Nobel Prize for Illiberal Rhetoric. In the meantime, we are observing the change in our society's philosophy and values from freedom and justice to corruption, decay, cynicism, and injustice. All of these "values" are artistically incorporated in one person: Peace Arch Entertainment. In any case, there is something in the way of "natural law" that can be stated awkwardly as follows: "There is no reason to toy with our opinions and there is every reason not to." Please do not quote me on that. Instead, work it into a better natural law and enunciate it in clearer and more concise terms. It is immaterial who is credited with the words; the objective is to empower the oppressed to control their own lives.

You don't know how tempted I am to sue the stuffing out of Peace Arch Entertainment. For proof of this fact, I must point out that Peace Arch Entertainment's memoirs are uniformly riddled by an unbelievable degree of ignorance. But that's not all: Its disciples' thinking is fenced in by many constraints. Their minds are not free because they dare not be. Peace Arch Entertainment is known for walking into crowded rooms and telling everyone there that we should avoid personal responsibility. Try, if you can, to concoct a statement better calculated to show how mean-spirited Peace Arch Entertainment is. You can't do it. Not only that, but once one begins thinking about free speech, about shameless lumpenproletariats who use ostracism and public opinion to prevent the airing of views contrary to their own craven beliefs, one realizes that it does not tolerate any view that differs from its own. Rather, Peace Arch Entertainment discredits and discards those people who contradict it along with the ideas that they represent.

In the course of my work, I regularly come in contact with what I call incomprehensible warmongers, and most of them also feel that it's undoubtedly a tragedy that Peace Arch Entertainment's goal in life is apparently to diminish society's inducements to good behavior. Here, I use the word "tragedy" as the philosopher Whitehead used it. Whitehead stated that "the essence of dramatic tragedy is not unhappiness. It resides in the solemnity of the remorseless working of things," which I interpret as saying that we need to look beyond the most immediate and visible problems with Peace Arch Entertainment. We need to look at what is behind these problems and understand that Peace Arch Entertainment is extremely obscene. In fact, let's see what my handy-dandy Obscene-O-Meter has to say about it. Whoa! The needle is off the scale! It's a good thing I checked, because if the past is any indication of the future, Peace Arch Entertainment will once again attempt to turn me, a typically mild-mannered person, into a wanton vat of credentialism. Peace Arch Entertainment has convinced a lot of people that our elected officials should be available for purchase by special-interest groups. One must pause in admiration at this triumph of media manipulation. In order to solve the big problems with Peace Arch Entertainment, we must first understand these problems, and to understand them, we must examine the warp and woof of its pleas. I sometimes feel like Peace Arch Entertainment has forced us into a danse macabre with its noxious inveracities leading us to the grave, period. I admit I have a tendency to become a bit insensitive whenever I rebuke Peace Arch Entertainment for trying to trivialize certain events that are particularly special to us all. While I am desirous of mending this tiny personality flaw, Peace Arch Entertainment's logodaedaly is frighteningly successful at convincing the most disgraceful scum you'll ever see that its opinions represent the opinions of the majority -- or even a plurality. In fact, I have said that to Peace Arch Entertainment on many occasions and I will keep on saying it until it stops trying to interfere with the most important principles of democracy. Now, I'm no fan of Peace Arch Entertainment's, but still, Peace Arch Entertainment craves more power. I say we should give it more power -- preferably, 10,000 volts of it.

I believe I have finally figured out what makes organizations like Peace Arch Entertainment replace Robert's Rules of Order with "facilitated consensus building" at all important meetings. It appears to be a combination of an overactive mind, lack of common sense, assurance of one's own moral propriety, and a total lack of exposure to the real world. To be quite frank, at no time in the past did the most mudslinging rapscallions you'll ever see shamble through the streets of cities, demanding rights they imagine some supernatural power has bestowed upon them. From what I know of Peace Arch Entertainment's precepts, it is saying essentially three things:

1. Its fairy tales epitomize wholesome family entertainment.
2. Space aliens are out to lay eggs in our innards or ooze their alien hell-slime all over us.
3. Everyone with a different set of beliefs from its is going to get a one-way ticket to Hell.

Obviously, all three of these are indeed closed-minded.

The long and short of it is that Peace Arch Entertainment will stop at nothing to devise stupid scams to get money for nothing. This may sound outrageous, but if it were fiction I would have thought of something more credible. As it stands, what we have been imparting to Peace Arch Entertainment -- or what it has been eliciting from us -- is a half-submerged, barely intended logic, contaminated by wishes and tendencies we prefer not to acknowledge. It is disgraceful that, with a wink and a smile, Peace Arch Entertainment has signified its approval of featherbrained simpletons who create a kind of psychic pain at the very root of the modern mind. I could substantiate what I'm saying about the most overbearing fence-sitters you'll ever see, but I don't feel that that's necessary, since we all know what they're like. Peace Arch Entertainment's values are based on two fundamental errors. They assume that Peace Arch Entertainment has the mandate of Heaven to block streets and traffic to the extent that ambulances can't get through. And they promote the mistaken idea that its decisions are based on reason.

There is a vast empirical literature on this subject. Some people might object to that claim, and if they do, my response is: Peace Arch Entertainment is frightened that we might rage, rage against the dying of the light. That's why it's trying so hard to prevent whistleblowers from reporting that life is too short to have to put up with it. I trust that I have not shocked any of you by writing that. However, I do realize that some of my readers may feel that much of what I have penned about Peace Arch Entertainment in this letter is heartless and in violation of our Christian duty to love everyone. If so, I can say only that every time Peace Arch Entertainment tries, it gets increasingly successful in its attempts to evade responsibility. This dangerous trend means not only death for free thought, but for imagination as well. I may be beating a dead horse here, but I do want to point out that Peace Arch Entertainment uses big words like "anthropocentrical" to make itself sound important. For that matter, benevolent Nature has equipped another puny creature, the skunk, with a means of making itself seem important, too. Although Peace Arch Entertainment's slurs may reek like a skunk, Peace Arch Entertainment's faithfuls often reverse the normal process of interpretation. That is, they value the unsaid over the said, the obscure over the clear.

Nobody wants Peace Arch Entertainment to promote evil ideologies such as metagrobolism, but Peace Arch Entertainment insists on doing it anyway. To some extent, if I recall correctly, Peace Arch Entertainment runs at the first sign of trouble. No joke. I could be wrong about any or all of this, but at the moment, the above fits what I know of history, people, and current conditions. If anyone sees anything wrong or has some new facts or theories on this, I'd love to hear about them.

Why are people so defensive of a company looking to cash in on a sad event in our history? With all of the opportunities to profit from over 5,000 publicly traded companies, why choose to make a buck on projects like this.
How can this be defended, I'm not saying there aren't worse events in history, but cashing in...seems kind of crappy.

I appreciate your rational tone. I would guess that all, or virtually all, of the people on the board invested in PAE as a company because it has many, many irons in the fire. Ch. 27 just happens to be one of them. The Boycott folks, like many people with an issue about which they're passionate, don't see anything but that issue. However, in reality Ch 27 is just a small piece of PAE.

Certainly, an owner of PAE could find Ch 27 sufficiently objectionable that he decides to divest. My own view is that nothing is beyond the pale for consideration in a book or movie, and that if you're going to use the profit motive as an argument against books and movies no book should ever be written and no film ever made.

I think CH 27 could be a good movie, it could be a bad movie. It could be a tasteless movie that should never have been made. But we won't know that until we see it. If it's a bad movie, failure will be punishment enough for all those involved in it, including the investors.

You Boycott folks should not act as though you've got a monopoly on morality, taste, or respect for John Lennon. The movie will come out and we'll ALL have a say about whether it's good or bad, vilely opportunistic or thoughtful and enligtening. Hey, let's not burn the books --
especially those that we haven't read.

But by using that argument, all production companies are guilty - Paramount, Dreamworks, Sony, New Line Cinema among all others. Movies about WWI and WWI; movies about Vietnam; movies like Schindler's List and Black Hawk Down; there are so many - these are all movies made about sad times and about other people's miseries. They were also all made to generate revenues and profits. Whether it is right to do so or not, is a moral debate, and not a debate on whether Peace Arch, as a whole, is crappy or not - at least in my opinion.....

n none of these situations was the sole purpose of death or destruction done for the sole purpose of gaining fame. I (begrudgingly) understand political, religious, or cultural differences that lead to wars or violence. Although its horrible in all situations, sometimes in reality, i suppose its unavoidable.
But the idea of making this film and rewarding the killer...I just find it totally offensive. Believe me, I'm not with the morality police, i'm all about freedom of speech and artistic expression. I don't even have a problem with the film being made, its the idea of profiting from the film that bothers me.
Had it been done as part of a research project for student on the mentally ill, with proceeds going to charity, it would still suck, but I could live with it.

But there must be a better way to make a buck, hell the writer could have lit himself on fire for reality TV and gotten wealthy (if he survived).
